Today I met with WTO DG Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to discuss WTO reform, and South Africa’s role in shaping a rebalanced multilateral trading system. SA remains deeply engaged on WTO reform and will continue to engage as we head towards the G20 and MC14. #G20 #WTO



I met with Peking University economists to discuss China’s energy transition and industrial development. The session provided an opportunity for South Africa to take lessons on how China has used subsidies to reduce upfront costs to innovation, while building competitiveness.



R12bn in funding approved by the IDC to support black industrialists, women & youth led SMMEs. From green hydrogen opportunities in EC to growing poultry industry in WC, we’re building an inclusive, reindustrialised SA economy that leaves no province behind. #NCOPBudgetVote

Met with ITC Deputy ED Dorothy Tembo to strengthen ties on SMME development, women’s economic empowerment & inclusive trade. We discussed SA’s G20-hosted Global SME Ministerial, SheTrades, AfCFTA, and tools to boost SMME bankability, access to markets & regional competitiveness.



Today I held robust engagement with UNCTAD’s Ralf Peters on global trade tensions, non-tariff barriers & climate-linked restrictions. SA remains firm in defending multilateralism & using its G20 Presidency to advance Africa’s trade & industrialisation agenda. #G20 #AfCFTA #UNCTAD


This evening I had a productive meeting with WIPO DG Daren Tang in Geneva. We discussed the role of IP in global geo-strategic competition and WIPO’s support as SA finalises key legislation. We also agreed to deepen work on traditional medicine, SMMEs & inclusive innovation.

Intellectual Property must support SDGs by strengthening public health, food security, industrialization, & climate change resilience. As we look to advancing the AfCFTA IP protocol, we call for the strengthening of regional cooperation & continued WIPO support.
Hosted Ambassadors & permanent representatives to the WTO in Geneva, to discuss the future of the global trading system. In line with a rules based system, South Africa continues to call for reforms that restore trust & a commitment to outcomes based decision making.

At the BRICS Business Forum sidelines, Rio de Janeiro, I met with Dr Didit Ratam, Chair of Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce. We explored opportunities for a stronger SA-Indonesia investment partnership and discussed Indonesia’s experience in critical mineral value addition.



EC comes 2nd (after WC) on alcohol abuse among our youth population, a consequence of our over reliance on alcohol for socializing. At the EC Underage Drinking Summit, I highlighted how alcohol abuse makes SA less competitive as it affects productivity & responsible spending.




Sidelines meeting with Ghana’s Minister of Trade , Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare to discuss strengthening trade relations between Ghana and South Africa, accelerating work on the AfCFTA, and highlighted furthering investment opportunities on infrastructure & renewable energy.


On the sidelines of the US - Africa business summit I had a bilateral meeting with Assistant US Trade Representative, Ms Connie Hamilton reflecting on the status of AGOA renewal talks and US-SA trade negotiations.


US - Africa ministerial round table. We need a mutually beneficial trade & investment partnership that helps Africa develop much like the US needs Africa’s supplies to advance its own industrialization. This can be achieved through adherence to a rules based trading system.
