👩🏻🎓Data from a master’s thesis by one of our enthusiastic med. students: 🧠 The risk of overt HE is highest in patients with both large shunts (SPSS) and Minimal HE (MHE). 🧠 MHE alone has a higher risk that shunts alone. Lactulose was not protective when SPSS were present.

Treat your decomp #cirrhosis patients for M/HE before ACLF: - test and treat early on - check up on compliance and effect regularly - cross your fingers that they can withstand a future ACLF event because then rifaximin will have no effect 👇

Surprised to see that in this solid, multi-center, and manually curated cohort, #PPI did not impact the #HE risk in #cirrhosis Thank you, @c_labenz and team, for compiling these data.
