Dep. Sec. Livanis attended the kick-off event for Montgomery College's Feds to Ed program. As a Teacher Quality and Diversity Program grant recipient, MC will provide accelerated teacher training, helping career changers get into MD classrooms and decrease the teacher shortage.

Sec. Rai joined the AFRO at its Juneteenth event to honor five colleges (Bowie State University, Coppin State University, Morgan State University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore and University of Baltimore) and their leaders for their role in promoting education in MD.

MHEC celebrates South Asian Heritage Month (7/18 - 8/17) by recognizing Dr. Sanjay Rai whose journey from central India led to him becoming MD’s Secretary of Higher Education. His work in higher ed has resulted in greater access, student success, and closing achievement gaps.

MHEC's committed to further exploring higher ed’s role in advancing AI and has approved programs that embed AI into the curriculum. Through universities, research institutions, and tech companies, MD can become a leader in AI research, business attraction, and talent development.

MHEC staff joined college and university leaders from across the state for the Maryland Transfer Intensive convening hosted by @AspenInstitute. Participants discussed creating affordable and barrier-free pathways to and through 4-year institutions for community college students.



Today, Sec. Sanjay Rai visited Capital Technology University (CTU), a STEM focused institution recognized for creating flexible learning opportunities and meeting emerging workforce needs. MHEC has approved 13 academic programs at CTU over the last two years, including 3 in AI.

MHEC Sec. Rai joined Gov. Moore, displaced federal workers, and higher ed leadership receiving grants to create and expand teacher education programs for a roundtable discussion. The funds are designed to get federal workers in MD classrooms, decreasing the teacher shortage.
