#GojiRewatch25 The movie ridicules the yout culture/activism movement/hippies as ineffective, performative and even counter-productive if they drive to Fuji by cars (which were banned at that point) and they lit a big fire. In fact that's how they attract Hedorah and end up dead.
#GojiRewatch25 That we see Godzilla do this and that it also happens to be the only Godzilla movie in which we see Ultraman (toy) has to be a tribute to the late Eiji Tsuburaya. This is something that was denied for Space Amoeba. So in the very next film they did it unofficially

#GojiRewatch25 Godzilla vs. Hedorah is mostly similar to All Monsters Attack (in some way it's its spiritual remake) but just like the original it has a one-eyed scientist watching the death of his fish in the tank.

#GojiRewatch25 In terms of chronology the last time we saw Godzilla was when he was about to begin hibernation. In Godzilla vs. Hedorah he's first seen coming in the sunlight, an unquestionable hero. Not sure if it's intentional continuity and character development I'll say it is

#GojiRewatch25 Ken's toys include: Bullmark soft vinyl Godzilla (might be the same prop as in AMA which I called "Marusan" sorry for that although Bullmark version was based on it), giant Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Baragon and Ultraman, Kanegon and Gomora(?) from the Ultra series.

#GojiRewatch25 This shot is absolutely brilliant. First we see together three Japanese icons: Mt. Fuji, Chrysanthemum and Godzilla, then a tracking shot reveals smoking chimneys and industrial pollution.
#GojiRewatch25 Four is a bit low. I'm raising the score on letterboxd. It's true this movie has little new to offer but it's one more ok kaiju movie from the monster factory. But it has this "last day of school" atmosphere about it if you know what I mean. The end of an era.

#GojiRewatch25 Tsuburaya passed away 2 days into production before he had a chance to visit the set It was Sadamasa Arikawa's single Toho movie without his supetvision but didn't like talking about it. Toho refused to give dedication to Tsuburaya and a lot of veterans walked away

#GojiRewatch25 Space Amoeba feels like such a late comer to the series. Almost everything has been done to death already. What is it about? There are themes we know from other movies but maybe the main one here is some kind of mind over matter spirituality vs materialism struggle?
