How did the @AMarkFoundation prize money affect our @IndianaProSPJ winners. Morale boost to the whole newsroom, says @JennaRWatson; @JamesEBriggs talks about the importance of the ongoing investment that this funding provides for this kind of work.
Journalists share about challenge of the weight of these stories — though they didn’t directly experience the trauma, there’s pressure that comes with the reporting. @hayleighcolombo finds relief in her family, @indyemapolis says breaks are essential to “fill that creative cup.”
.@JamesEBriggs recalls @PostBaron when considering number of investigative journos on his staff. “I hope all of them,” were Baron’s words — Briggs says there is a reality that dedicated investigative teams are almost nonexistent today. You have to carve out time and just commit.
The “how” is hard because these pieces take time. @hayleighcolombo says let go of the idea you’re going to have dedicated time, because you likely won’t. Instead, what can be done in 30 minutes, a much more reasonable ask to beleaguered editors and news directors. @IndianaProSPJ
