Yesterday morning our crews were called to Birstall to find a kitten trapped between two walls. They rescued the nameless kitten and it and was sent to a local vet for care. If you find an animal in distress, always contact the appropriate animal welfare organisation.

Many thanks to ITV News Central (East Midlands) for leading last night's headlines with our warning on BBQs and bonfires in the heatwave: orlo.uk/Gb8c1 Have a safe, enjoyable weekend, and don't take any risks with fire, whether in your garden or out in the countryside.
We're in for a heatwave over the next few days, and while this means a lovely start to our July Fortnight, remember these warm, very dry conditions make wildfires more likely. Please be fire safety aware while at home, in your garden or out enjoying the countryside. #SummerSafety

If you're planning a holiday to the coast, or are anyway near open water this summer, the lifesaving tips in these images from the @RNLI are worth knowing. Above all though, don't take risks, and respect the water. For more information, visit: orlo.uk/zuI4v #FloatToLive

The Met Office has issued a yellow heat health alert in the East Midlands due to current and forecast high temperatures. While this will mean a nice start to Leicestershire's July Fortnight for many, we'd urge caution and vigilance in the coming heatwave: orlo.uk/LwCpw

Following an investigation we believe the wildfire on Croft Hill last week was caused by a discarded disposable BBQ. With further nice weather expected we understand the temptation to enjoy cooked food outdoors, but please consider packing a picnic instead orlo.uk/0HgEH
