Conservative MP for Sevenoaks and Swanley. Shadow Secretary of State for Education. Promoted by Laura Trott of 6 Wealden Place, Bradbourne Vale Rd, Sevenoaks
More delay tactics. This won’t do enough to protect children from social media & smartphones. It’s simple: get phones out of the classroom & children off social media. There are amendments going through Parliament now which make this happen. Labour are choosing not to act.
NEW Screen time crackdown for under-16s to tackle "compulsive" scrolling is on the way, tech sec @peterkyle tells me. Two-hour curfews are being considered, with announcement expected later this year. In interview, he says: *Parents shouldn't feel they have to be "ripping…
Wrong. Man - who happens to identify as female - killed husband. This is male violence.

Neil has been a brilliant part of the Shadow Education team, but this is fantastic and a well deserved appointment.

I have written to Ofsted urging a full investigation into appalling reports of pupils being excluded from Culture Celebration Day simply for expressing pride in Britain. Children celebrating our shared national heritage should be celebrated not silenced.

Labour are in denial. They are ignoring my questions and ignoring the overwhelming evidence of the huge damage smartphones & social media are having on young people’s attainment, behaviour & mental health. How much more evidence do they need? We can and must do more.
I call bullshit. You’ve spent the last 48 hours calling me a ‘traitor’ for not drawing attention to a leaked spreadsheet with our special forces and MI6 officers’ names on. But we’re meant to believe this tweet attacking me as a traitor for having a Jewish wife & family was…
One of the team who post to my X account accidentally pressed like on an awful antisemitic tweet earlier today. I apologise for this. The post also refers to “brown savages”, and is equally racist against me. Clearly it was not intentional. The amount of antisemitism and…
It’s a no brainer that we should be removing smartphones from the classroom. Labour are wrong on this and for every child’s sake I hope they see sense soon.
📱School leaders say banning phones has been 'transformational', with a drop in suspension rates, safeguarding concerns and even staff turnover schoolsweek.co.uk/transformation…
Starts are only up because of strong demand for the higher apprenticeships which we introduced, and which Bridget is about to start abolishing. Other starts are down.
And again, another Labour hat trick. This time on apprenticeships: 🆙 Starts up 🆙 Participation up 🆙 Achievements up Through our Plan for Change, we’re backing our young people to unlock opportunity and drive growth. x.com/bphillipsonmp/…
This is a tax on oversubscribed schools. Piling more pressure on schools, who are facing huge shortfalls, after Labour broke their promise to compensate them for their Jobs Tax.

The watering down of the guidance on gender identity means nothing will change. Kids will keep being prompted with the bad idea that they have been "born in the wrong body"
This is appalling. A girl should not be turned away from her own school just for celebrating her own country and culture. This is not just a matter for an apology but requires a full investigation from the trust involved. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
The Edu Sec called vital RHSE guidance 'partisan.' It’s not partisan to protect children from age-inappropriate content or safeguard women & girls. It appears Labour have weakened age limits & schools are still waiting for guidance on gender questioning children. Not good enough.
Labour scraps Tory plan to put age restriction on sex education in primary schools that would have stopped under-nines being taught trib.al/wWDYpQ4
Well done, Portugal. Labour are sitting on their hands while more countries act to get phones out of classrooms.Fewer distractions, more real conversations, less bullying & a drop in poor behaviour prove why phones have no place in schools. We must act now shorturl.at/JL43y
Labour’s record on education is a litany of broken promises. Schools promised compensation for their jobs tax face huge shortfalls. Nurseries got nothing & are on the brink. A key pledge of 6,500 more teachers has delivered 400 fewer. Children, teachers, & parents deserve better.

Madness. What is the Education Secretary thinking.
