Equally important, the "buy now" culture over the past 40 years has steadily depressed the very concept of savings. Credit has replaced it. So lower interest rates won't encourage savers--who would have to get 6% at least to come back to banks.
My traditional understanding of higher interest rates was that it curbed spending via means of encouraging savings, which curbed inflation. But that doesn't apply anymore when our national debt is so high that interest rates have become a deficit spending driver.
