A depiction of peasants ploughing the land with the help of oxen from a 15th century French manuscript.

This image shows the imprisonment of Charles, Duke of Orléans, in the Tower of London. Like many nobles, he was captured at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 and taken to England. He spent 25 years in captivity, writing poetry. More than 500 of his poems have been preserved!

One of the most ridiculous things ever was when DC Comics sued Valencia football club for using a bat in their crest, thinking they copied this from Batman. The bat symbol is an almost 800 years old symbol of the city, and the club used it since its foundation in 1919.
I really like the coat of arms of Valencia. Bat is an extremely powerful heraldic symbol! 🦇 It is said that it was adopted by King of Aragon James I the Conqueror when a bat landed on his standard during the conquest of Valencia in 1238, which was interpreted as good omen.
Notice the two Ls on the coat of arms! This was meant to symbolize loyalty. Two letters meant to symbolize that they were DOUBLE loyal to the king!

The overwhelming defeat at Jemmingen in 1568 ended the Dutch rebellion against the Spanish in the northern Netherlands for a time. "...Count Louis' forces, untrained and poorly supplied, were overwhelmed by the iron discipline and heavy artillery of the Spanish under Alva. A…
Look at the English ones wearing the coat of arms of John Hawkwood, a medieval English surcoat, a Union Jack flag, and a baseball cap. Maybe a new aesthetic for English youths to follow.
Completely by accident I came across "Palace Games" in Visegrád, Hungary. Luckily I had my camera with me so I could take these sick shots
Abruzzo, the historic northern frontier of the Kingdom of Naples, is absolutely underrated. Hidden within those Apennine vales are some of the most breathtaking vistas I ever had the fortune to behold in all of Italy.
Is Abruzzo the most underrated region in Italy? Incredible nature, lots of wildlife including bears, has everything from mountains and a glacier to sunny beaches, rich medieval history, interesting foods... But you don't hear people talking about it much.
Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403, where 16 year old future king Henry V was shot in the face with an arrow. "Boy though he was, he did not falter."
At the Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403, the then 16-year-old Prince Henry was in excruciating pain after he was shot in the face by an arrow. But he fought on despite his injury and rallied his troops! He kept being present in the thick of battle, "never ceasing either to fight…
French police needs to bring back this aesthetic.

Maybe you would be interested in the book The Travels of Leo of Rozmital 1465-1467. These are accounts written by envoys of 15th century Bohemian nobleman Leo of Rozmital who accompanied him on a diplomatic mission all over Europe. You can find many interesting things, for…

Which European medieval ruler had the most illegitimate children? It probably has to be King of England Henry I, who is recorded to have fathered at least 21 illegitimate children, but Duke of Burgundy Philip the Good comes close with at least 18.
