Since Whatley took over as RNC chair the only significant loss for the GOP was the Wisconsin Supreme Court which was a nonpartisan race. Outside of that he has been extremely effective
People forget too that North Carolina is generally a redder state then the mean. In a state like Pennsylvania a popular Dem governor would easily get a boost but in a state that's consistently around R+3-4 its a bit different. Time will tell what happens
