New paper in @GlobalChangeBio Eastern US forests are shifting to more mesic species and the climate is expected to get drier. The two combined indicate drought will have a bigger impact in the carbon budget in the future. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gc…
IU Bloomington is hiring multiple tenured and tenure-track faculty in Environmental and/or Climate Impacts on Health and Wellbeing. Broadly defined and Geography is possible tenure home. For TT: indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/25853 For Tenured: indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/25852

So happy that our paper is now out in @NatureGeosci! Using a network of flux towers, we found that soil moisture was the dominant driver of carbon-water fluxes in US drylands, but many remote sensing products and models don’t get that quite right. nature.com/articles/s4156…

I may have said this before but while getting ready for my tree-ring class, I remember when I was hired and saw my lab space, I thought there was no way I could use it all. How naive I was.

This wee lil eastern larch from a peatland along Keweenaw Bay, MI takes us back to at least the 1770s (not including the inevitable missing rings hidden in there…)! 🥲 Happy #TreeRingTuesday, y’all 🌲💍🫶
Interested in climate change and forest ecology? We are recruiting 1-2 PhD student positions to start next academic year! More info here: stevekannenberg.com/opportunities
We’ve been working on getting the front yard more dynamic and not just grass. Starting to look good! Nice to see all that shoveling mulch lead to something besides reminding me I’m almost 40.

For the past two years I’ve been part of the openDendro project with @thirstygecko and @tswetnam among others. openDendro is an open-source framework for the essential analytic software used in dendrochronology.
Any tree-ring stable isotope folks know of intra annual chronologies (EW/LW) of C13 in the west or who to reach out to for them? Not looking for any particular species. We've a lot from AZ and UT but would love to expand the network further north @TheTreeCorener @ACsank
