Important work by @NatalieHauglund and the @NedergaardLab providing a mechanistic link between infraslow oscillations, blood and CSF dynamics, and clearance during NREM sleep. Of particular note for clinicians is the impairment of these dynamics by zolpidem.
Out today in @CellCellPress ! We show that oscillations in norepinephrine and cerebral blood volume are the missing pieces that link NREM sleep to clearance of waste from the brain 🧠💤 cell.com/cell/fulltext/…
Exciting new insights into the dynamics and function of sleep spindles revealed through a new detection method and intracortical recordings. This wonderful international and interdisciplinary collaboration was led by my friend @CBlancoDuque in the @VVyazovskiy lab.

Exciting work by the @anita_luthi lab! In addition to the beautiful electrophysiology and imaging, the second part of the paper provides fascinating insights into the influence of the sleep environment on sleep physiology. Congratulations @alejandrosoriof and everyone involved!
@LabLuthi uncovers a dual role of #locus @coeruleus in #sleep -> 1) its strict gatekeeper role for the sleep cycle 2) the partial brain-body arousals it generates. Powerful minds behind all this: @alejandrosoriof @GFoustoukos @CardisRomain nature.com/articles/s4159…

Our symposium 'Top down control of sleep/wake by the cerebral cortex' will take place today 13:30-15:00 in room Paris 1. I will present our original work and latest data on 'Cortical regulation of local and global aspects of sleep' @ESRS_Sleep #SleepEurope2024

Wonderful 30th anniversary event of the @MertonCollege Harvey Society yesterday. Nobel Laureate Sir Peter Ratcliffe spoke about the usefulness of useless knowledge emphasising that true knowledge in biology is always incomplete.

Thank you very much for supporting the 'Sleep Cycle'! Dear friends, I’m pleased to share that we've reached almost 2.5 times the initial funding target! With the £2,780 raised, Homeless Oxfordshire will be able to provide a safe place to sleep for one person in Oxford, UK,…
