LA needs to do this. Our members are overwhelmed w/ cases–sometimes 100s per attorney—misdemeanor attorneys have 200-900 cases depending on the courthouse! Public Defender’s Office has ethical & constitutional duty to turn down new cases until the staffing shortage is addressed

Absolutely sickening. We are outraged by @LASDHQ's decision to collaborate with ICE. This shameful partnership fuels fear, shatters families, and terrorizes immigrant communities. LA should not be aiding ICE’s cruel agenda. Get #ICEoutofLA NOW. latimes.com/california/sto…

California wants to end flat-fee contracts for indigent defense. This would be a huge step forward. These contracts can lead to rushed plea deals and an under-resourced defense for clients. #AB690 davisvanguard.org/2025/06/califo…

Client advocates help make rehabilitation and accountability possible. They are transforming public defense–bringing in family, community, and support networks to reduce incarceration and build trust. stateline.org/2025/06/10/how…

California is failing to provide enough investigators for #publicdefenders. Nearly half of counties have none at all! This puts innocent people at risk and stacks the system against those with fewer resources. Real justice needs real resources. calmatters.org/investigation/…

#AB379 will cause irreparable harm in our communities, especially among migrant sex workers and trafficking survivors. We need your help to convince your state senator to oppose the bill. A vote could take place as soon as tomorrow: Take action: secure.ngpvan.com/jO4sZ5-i20Ofw5…

Big win! A CA appeals court has dismissed the case against Diana Teran, who was wrongfully targeted under state hacking laws for exposing police misconduct. Targeting public servants for attempting to hold police accountable cannot stand.
#breaking A California appeals court has ordered dismissal of the case against Diana Teran, the former prosecutor who was prosecuted under state hacking statutes after she sent court records to a colleague as part of an effort to track bad cops.
Solidarity with @legalaidnyc in their strike to demand fair pay and reasonable caseloads! An inspiration to public defender unions everywhere (including this one!) When workload is less, clients get more!! gothamist.com/news/lawyers-a…

LA needs to follow suit and stop accepting new cases until the #publicdefender workload crisis is addressed dailyjournal.com/articles/38596…

We were proud to rally in support of @SEIU CA President David Huerta, who was unjustly attacked & arrested while advocating for immigrants' rights. We will always support the right to protest, especially against heavily militarized forces. LA is a labor town! ICE out of LA! ✊✊

David Huerta, president of @seiucalifornia, was beaten and arrested while exercising his First Amendment Rights. He was witnessing law enforcement activity during the violent ICE raids. #FreeDavidHuerta!

🚨 ICE raids in LA are tearing families apart. Public defenders stand in solidarity with LA's immigrant community, and with the protesters that were targeted last night with pepper spray and flash bang grenades. #ImmigrantRights laist.com/news/federal-a…
