New for @theScore: Ranking the PWHL’s top 25 players One of my favorite pieces I’ve worked on. Comments from players and personnel from around league on every player. Check it out 👇 thesco.re/4g4TtOS
The Ottawa Charge signed Gwyneth Philips to a 2-year extension. The 2025 PWHL Playoff MVP is the first to sign an extension a year out from unrestricted free agency this summer. Tidy business by Ottawa to get this one done early. Philips locked in through her Age 27 season.
Strong offseason for Brynas. In addition to Noora Tulus, they’ve added Viivi Vainikka, Elin Svensson, and Klara Peslarova, plus top prospect Ebba Hesselvall. They’ll be a top team to watch as SDHL games become free to watch on YouTube
Noora Tulus and the PWHL mutually agreed to terminate the final year of her contract with the New York Sirens. Tulus subsequently signed a 2-year deal to return to Sweden with Brynas. Tulus averaged 13:09 in her first 17 games, then just 6:59 in her last 13. Likely best for both…

Great to see Gardiner MacDougall on this staff

The Ottawa Charge locked up Rory Guilday to a 3-year contract today. She’s the third 1st-round pick to sign, and the first to sign for the max 3-year term. I’d love to see a Larocque-Guilday pairing. Guilday has really exciting defensive potential with her skating and reach.
Hurricanes lock up Jackson Blake to an 8-year, $45M extension beginning in 2026-27. Carolina goes long on Blake and Logan Stankoven a year before they become RFAs. They've got both for the next nine years - Blake at $5.625M and Stankoven at $6M from 2026 through 2034.
In the end, what is the final message of the Hockey Canada sexual assault trial? It could have been a reckoning, but it was something else. From @KatieJStrang and me — nytimes.com/athletic/64294…
The Boston Fleet re-sign Loren Gabel to a 1-year contract. Gabel, who turned 28 today, scored 2 goals and 3 points in 20 games last season. Tough year for a player of her offensive capabilities, and she has a chance to bounce back in a big way with lots of opportunity in Boston.
I wonder if Mannon McMahon shifts to center this season. Ottawa has only three players under contract who regularly played at center last season. McMahon was a center at UMD and won 56.6% of her draws as a super senior. Would fit nicely at 3C. Re-signed on a 1-year deal today.
The Toronto Sceptres re-sign defender Anna Kjellbin to a 1-year contract. Kjellbin is the seventh defender Toronto has under contract, plus unsigned draft pick Hanna Baskin. The 31-year-old notched 3 assists in 25 games, and is Team Sweden’s captain.
The Cincinnati Cyclones sign F Justin Gill, the first offseason move for the Leafs' ECHL affiliate. Gill scored 22 PTS in 23 GP with ECHL Worcester last season as a rookie, and 7 PTS in 35 AHL GP (but was a -26). An Islanders 2023 draft pick and a standout QMJHLer from 2022-24.
Fleet GM Marmer on hiring a head coach with no women's hockey experience: "I maybe would have felt differently had I not spent a year with the Bruins. Having that opportunity with the men, the way that those coaches and development staff is working with athletes and those…
Rheaume-Mullen is the son of Canadian great Manon Rheaume
World Junior Summer Showcase Note: Defenseman Dakoda Rheaume-Mullen has been added to Team USA's roster. He replaces Sam Laurila (NYI).
The Boston Fleet hire Kris Sparre as head coach, replacing Courtney Kessel, who left in June to become Princeton's head coach. Sparre was an assistant with the AHL's San Diego Gulls for the past three seasons. Formerly on coaching staffs in the OHL with Flint and Niagara
A first look at Casey O'Brien in New York Sirens gear, rocking the No. 26 she donned at Wisconsin 📽️ @CCMHockey
The Lightning sign 3rd-rounder Ethan Czata to a 3-year ELC. That means the Niagara IceDogs forward is now ineligible to play in the NCAA.
