The U.S. already gets what it wants from Greenland (and Denmark), so grabbing it makes zero sense. And will Trump want to foot the $1 bln for the grant-dependent economy? Probably not. A quick jaunt to my former stomping grounds, with @jakobweizman politico.eu/article/grabbi…
It will be fun driving from Belgium to Latvia in a few weeks 😅
Brutal from Poland's Tusk as he effectively accuses Germany's Merz of breaking EU laws on Schengen and says Poland will in future retaliate with border controls if Germany extends its closures
Second Canadian G7 summit where Trump is leaving before the end - creating traditions! Trying to find out what this means for those carefully drafted statements on critical raw materials, AI and other topics. #G7Kananaskis2025 #G7Summit
President Trump had a great day at the G7, even signing a major trade deal with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Much was accomplished, but because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State.
The EU is not ready to give in to Trump's 10% global tariff - talks are ongoing. #G7Kananaskis2025 politico.eu/article/eu-don…
Why did Ukraine publicly disclose so much info about Operation “Spiderweb”? That’s a very good question — and the answer reveals how modern warfare now goes far beyond the battlefield. 1/n

The Union Strikes Back: EU countries approve €20+ billion tariffs on U.S. products just now. Harley-Davidsons, cigarettes and - the biggest hit - soy beans. With the undefeatable @CamGijs politico.eu/article/eu-tak…
Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we…
It's also important to understand that the tariff rates that foreign countries are supposedly charging us are just made-up numbers. South Korea, with which we have a trade agreement, is not charging a 50% tariff on U.S. exports. Nor is the EU charging a 39% tariff.
NEW: The EU won't propose a ban on bloc-wide purchases of Russian LNG in its 16th sanctions package, two EU diplomats said. That comes despite the EU importing record volumes of the supercooled fuel from Moscow this month. w/@Koen_Verhelst pro.politico.eu/news/192991
If you don’t know who’s set to re-elect himself as Belarus’s dictator on January 26, read my new cover story for @POLITICOEurope . Based on phone calls, I gathered evidence showing how the man who jails the Belarusians hypocritically weaponises migrants for his games. #Belarus…

Americans would do well to remember that much of their dominance isn't actually due to raw power. China can build aircraft carriers or use economic coercion but what makes the United States unique are its allies
The thing is, as Europeans, we can complain about this all we want but at the end of the day, Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a much more serious problem for us than it is for the Americans. They'll be fine either way, but we might not be
“Trump said that Europe should play the main role in defending and supporting Ukraine and that he wanted European troops present in Ukraine to monitor a cease-fire, according to the officials. He hasn’t ruled out U.S. support for the arrangement, although no U.S. troops would be…
Instead of boosting European support for Ukraine right now, most European leaders pretend nothing serious is happening. We are sleepwalking into strategic disaster not just for Ukraine, but for all European security.
“Zakharova, who is sanctioned by the #EU, had her visa revoked, after objections from 🇪🇺 countries,“ @PoliticoEurope writes. 👇 #Estonia firmly opposed making an exception to sanctions & allowing a strong advocate of Russia’s aggression into the EU. politico.eu/newsletter/bru…
CONFIRMED: @EU_Commission President @vonderleyen & EU Trade Commissioner @MarosSefcovic have arrived in #Mercosur region. They'll meet their political counterparts & work hard to find final compromises for a groundbreaking EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement. More to follow🇪🇺
Touchdown in Latin America📍 The finish line of the EU-Mercosur agreement is in sight. Let’s work, let’s cross it. We have the chance to create a market of 700 million people. The largest trade and investment partnership the world has ever seen. Both regions will benefit.
