🧪🌱 excited to get started 🤠🌲
New mug, new brain! Connie @Con_JMcFadden has just started her PhD journey with us, helping bring the Living Paint of the Vertical Forest to the walls of urban spaces, while studying the impact of acoustics on microbial communities along the way. 🌱
A braw meal at the Bothy with some of the most exciting brains in British psychiatry @ProfMinnis & @BendyBrain

To develop brain vascular organoid models, we need brains—and our new PhD student, Nerea @nereacg2908, with her beautiful brain, will help us create them using stem cells.
Thank you to @morenorse, the only one I know who could beautifully sketch my fast-paced talk, ‘From Bone to Brain via Cartilage: Becoming More Cell-Agnostic’, at the CeMi seminar @theglasgowcemi.

The beautiful PhDs are inspiring the new cohort of @StrathBiomedEng MSc students with playful bioengineering, exploring the fundamental biophysics of living cells and its applied translation in the nervous system for regenerative medicine, disease modeling, and drug discovery.
As a bioengineer, it was an insightful experience to be invited to PharmaTech Integrates 2024, in collaboration with @NMIS_group and @ukCPI, to join a panel discussion on the oligonucleotide and peptide revolution, and its impact on patients, the NHS, and the UK economy.

Excited to join the latest cohort @YoungAcademySco : )
📢We're excited to welcome our new members! 📢 48 talented young leaders are joining our interdisciplinary membership. After a competitive selection process, they join us in our commitment to sharing knowledge and experience to create a better future. youngacademyofscotland.org.uk/new-members-20…
Possibly one of the first @ARIA_research PhD students, if not the very first! 🙃
With a master project in ‘Active Nematics in Biological Systems’ now evolving into a PhD exploring computation with bioactive matter, we are excited for years of countless cups of tea and coffee with Lorna @LornaMerrett while making sense of the biophysics of living beings!
Ema Strakova, an artist and first-year biomedical engineering undergraduate student at @StrathBiomedEng, joined us for her summer placement to design, 3D print, and test her own microfluidic devices. 🤓
A big thank you to @JGjanegreen, @DrSarahBennett, @SEDSConnective, @cjcrompton, @SineadRhodes and @KimiaWitte for all of their advice and support with this section of the #TranslatingResearchIntoChange report! Read here: books.ed.ac.uk/edinburgh-diam…
5/ 47% of our Scottish survey respondents recorded a score of ≥32 in the AQ50, suggesting that people with hEDS/HSD show high levels of autistic traits. This could also point to an under-diagnosis within the hEDS/HSD community, though further research is required.
The possibilities at @melabg are only limited by one’s imagination. Thank you, @hadihei, for hosting me during the visit, and I cannot wait to explore some of those possibilities across campuses.
We had a fantastic time hosting Dr @KimiaWitte from the University of Department of Biomedical Engineering, @UniStrathclyde in our labs, discussing future collaboration on brain research 🧠. Looking forward to some groundbreaking work together!
