The horse chestnuts have been looking stressed for weeks now. Leaves are dying at least a month earlier than usual. The lawn is starting to green up after the recent rain, but I doubt it’s enough for these trees.

Hi folks! After our unexpected detour to Animal Farm, we’re back on Thursday 7th August to discuss Words From The Hedge by Richard Negus aka @TrooperSnooks. That’s plenty of time to get hold of a copy and read/listen to it…. See you on 7th!
Dog walk roulette… thunder rumbling in the distance. Will we make it home & dry?

Butterfly experts: is this a large white or a green-veined white? #butterfly

Happy Friday! May your day be as joyous as this wren’s clearly is (sound on)
QUICK!! Get the washing in!! Not a phrase I’ve had to yell at the dogs very often this summer….

Late evening walk last night. Still very warm at 9.30pm. I’ll try to remember this come November…

Stunning full moon rising, rose gold and glorious. Photos are hopeless - go outside and look!

This morning’s butterfly tally: lots of , , , , Large Whites, Gatekeepers, Ringlets and this Red Admiral.

This should be a really interesting session! @SustEnvFarming @jake_fiennes @AgronomistGrant @BallindeanRF @TrooperSnooks @NaomiLWood @hanslope @TheHillsCountry @courtenaywarren @cat_frampton @AndrewrhShirley @beckorio
Book Club with a difference on Thursday 10 July at 8pm. We're discussing 'Animal Farm' from a farming angle in the book's 80th year...and it will be recorded for BBC Radio 4! Join on Thursday with Dr Lisa Mullen, Orwell expert, former journalist and Asst Professor at Cambridge.
Not seen one of these for a while. Yes, we finally had some rain!

Lunchtime butterfly tally: many Meadow Browns, lots of Ringlets & Gatekeepers, quite a few Large Whites and a single Red Admiral.

On a high after a day at #Groundswell2025 . Some great talks but also great conversations. The ones which might turn out to be most useful were unplanned chance encounters - that’s Groundswell!

I received an unexpected but much appreciated act of cake-related kindness today! Thank you FB!

Looking forward to Groundswell, to hear thought-provoking talks & meet up with lots of people. If you're there on Wednesday, do drop into the panel session I'm chairing on the role of the agriculture input sector in regen ag: groundswellag.com/sessions/does-…
If only I could bottle the scent of a lime avenue in flower… intoxicating!
