Today, my postdoc @algaladvocate has been awarded the University of Manchester’s Bicentenary Fellowship and will soon be starting his own lab. He is the eighth independent PI to emerge from my lab in the past seven years. Proud PI moment.
We're hiring for 2 postdocs to work in our lab in London on the newly announced Wellcome Trust SynHG project. If you know people looking to work on big-scale ambitious science like this, please RT and share this with them. Apply by 7/20, interviews in Aug. imperial.ac.uk/jobs/search-jo…
Another bid day in K-lab. Congrats Jack Huang on successfully defending Master thesis and getting into Medical School at University of Toronto! 🎉 @westernuBiochem @SchulichMedDent

What if crops could grow in poor soil, resist disease and carry more nutrients? At #SchulichMedDent, @KarasLab is building synthetic plant genomes to make that future possible, with support from the U.K.’s @ARIA_research. schulich.uwo.ca/about/news-eve…
Excited to share that our lab is part of the @ARIA_uk Programmable Plants initiative! @WesternU @SchulichMedDent @westernuBiochem

The only rule in biology is that there are exceptions to every rule. This is what makes biology infinitely exciting; even when you think you’ve got the complete view, the floor can drop out from underneath you at any given moment. Case-in-point: The nucleus is the thing that…
We are looking for an ambitious and talented research fellow (lecturer level) to work on an exciting new synthetic genomics project. The research fellow will be encouraged to develop independent research lines complementary to the main project. jobs.manchester.ac.uk/Job/JobDetail?…

Together with Liyam Chitayat and Lorenzo Magni, I co-organized the inaugural edition of the Symbiogenesis Seminar Series, an online event focused on symbiogenesis.
Splitting proteins into two segments that reconstitute protein function by proximity is a great #synbio tool for recognition of proteins, cells and even regulation of therapy. BUT it requires two proteins, so twice the work and cost. Could it be done with just a single protein?🧵
