Jonathan Brash MP
@JonathanBrash
Labour Member of Parliament for Hartlepool.
OMG. I mean agree or disagree on the policy, but this kind of hyperbole is just ridiculous. The same voices could be heard in 1969 when the voting was lowered from 21.
Ex-political editor of The Sun, Trevor Kavanagh says the voting age being changed to 16 is "the beginning of the end" of Britain as we know it. Julia: "We don't trust them to buy a pint but we do to vote for who runs this country? It's a nonsense - absolute nonsense!" @JuliaHB1

I really do hope you keep pushing the narrative that Reform is now a dumping ground for failed Tories.
I have regular conversations with Tory MPs /peers and ex-Tory MPs who wish to defect. I also talk a lot to Reform Central about which ones would benefit the cause and those that wouldn't.
This is hilariously untrue on every level. ‘No idea Nigel’ hasn’t got a clue.
People have no idea how much policy work Reform is already doing. We will have thousands of pages of legislation oven-ready for when @Nigel_Farage becomes PM. We know the system, the blob, will activate to block us at every turn. We will be ready. They will be defeated.
Supervisor Jon and people on Probation received a visit from @JonathanBrash MP whilst working at Seaton Carew Sea Front last week 👏 The team have been freshening up the benches along the sea front, sanding and then painting them. #CommunityPayback #ProbationNorthEast
Welcome to team Hartlepool!
Have had a fascinating 6 months working in the NHS, but now face new challenges - so looking forward to starting work for @JonathanBrash on Friday.
Rather than a referendum, I have a radical idea - how about political parties list their policies in some kind of document, a ‘manifesto’ say, then the party who wins implements those policies.
Offering votes to 16 year olds is a major constitutional change and should not be allowed without a referendum. How would Labour react if the Tories came to power and said you can only vote if you are over 50? 16 year olds should not be voting!
The way this Labour Government keeps implementing stuff they said they’d implement in their manifesto is just unacceptable.
BREAKING: The UK is set to lower the voting age to 16 in landmark electoral reforms. Julia: "Just when you think things couldn't get any worse... we're going to let kids vote over who runs the country - completely and utterly insane!" @JuliaHB1
Even more intriguing that so many appear to be outraged by a policy that was in the Labour manifesto.
Intriguing to hear so many of the objections to votes at 16 today. Consciously or otherwise, so many are exactly the same arguments which were used about every single extension of the franchise since the 19th century.
Aye, inevitable from the moment they put it in their manifesto and then won an election. 🙄
It was inevitable Labour would try to give 16 and 17-year-olds the vote. It’s the only way they’ll find people stupid enough to vote for them after the shit they’ve pulled.
Anyone else noticed that Lee’s jacket doesn’t recognise Northern Ireland? Not the political statement I was expecting from Reform if I’m honest.
My new jacket. Beautiful 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Yeah, I hate it when political parties make pledges in their manifestos, win an election and then deliver those pledges. It must be stopped.
Alex Phillips says Keir Starmer's plans to give votes to 16 and 17-year-olds is "disgusting and awful". "They just want to make sure they stay in power." @ThatAlexWoman | @jkyleofficial
Translation: Labour delivers pledge that was in their winning manifesto.
The country is falling apart at the seams, and Labour is engaging in cynical gerrymandering. A 16 yo writes … 👇🏻#votesfor16s telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/1…
👏Thank you to MP @JonathanBrash for speaking up in Parliament for great local breweries & improving consumer. 🗣️We're calling on the government to change the Pubs Code for England & Wales to allow tied pubs to have a right to serve a guest beer from a local, independent brewer!
Student politics take from Reform right here 👇👇. Extending home ownership to the working class is a sure fire way to rebalance wealth in our country. Capitalists like Zia have worked against it every chance they get, hence why we are in this position.
So long as young people have 0 chance of ever buying their own home, the UK will continue to hurtle toward socialism.

Who was it who signed the deal that omitted a returns deal? Who was the PM when the small boats crisis started? Anyone know?
The idiotic Starmer has axed this country's only practical plan to deal with the boats – at French behest! – while the French cynically refuse to do enough to help. mol.im/a/14897291
Thank you to @JonathanBrash for listening to disabled voices and voting AGAINST benefits cuts. He said: “I’ve listened to disabled people in Hartlepool - there’s confusion, anxiety, fear. Change is needed, but not like this. We must protect the most vulnerable.”
Tonight, I voted against the Welfare Bill. I’ve listened to disabled people in Hartlepool - there’s confusion, anxiety, fear. Change is needed, but not like this. We must protect the most vulnerable. Hartlepool first. Country second. Party third. Always. #Hartlepool
Aren’t the arsonists defecting to Reform?
Ahh, the arsonists offering to rebuild your house they burnt to the ground. Apparently they’re the *only* ones who can 🤣
