I'm on bluesky, too. A New York Times Bestselling writer, public speaker, and radio commentator. Can get my book and podcast at http://letthemleadbybacon.com
ABC's "Good Morning America" produced a feature on my book, "Let Them Lead," calling it "The real @TedLasso." You decide! The players led the winless River Rats (yes!) from worst to first in three years. Give yourself 3 minutes for a laugh and a pump-up. goodmorningamerica.com/news/video/rea…
This.
I have to agree with you again. Let’s skip the drama this time. Hire someone who’ll quietly, competently do the job. We don’t need a rock star.
I happily concede that AJ Hinch is the best manager in baseball, and add that @ChrisFetter41 (former student of mine) is the MLB's best pitching coach. And I don't think it's even close on both fronts. Doesn't mean I have to agree with every decision.
Yeah, ok. Question AJ Hinch. Literally the most intentional manager in all of baseball.
Good point about the losing streak, too. Even worse when Skubal clearly wanted to stay in.
Trying to head off a 7 game slide, too. I’ll never understand this decision. It’s one batter.
So after 105 pitches Tigers pull Skubal with a 1-0 lead, men on first and third, and two outs. Yes, I get pitch count and all, but he's got 11 Ks, clearly dialed in, and what do 3-5 more pitches matter? They bring in Holton, and a wild pitch ties the game.
After going 0-2 on last two presidents, U-M should skip the next shiny thing to hire calm, cool, ultra-competent interim @UMichPresGrasso. He doesn't want it? Even better. Unlike 3 of the last 4 UM presidents, he won't apply for Harvard after his second year.
Always a great chat with @DougTribou This week: All Star game, Tigers' second half, and the retirement of Michigan's 26-time Big Ten champion women's gymnastics coach Bev Plocki.
🥓 on ⚾️🤸♂️—> MLB put on a big show for the All-Star game. On @michigan_public, @Johnubacon and I discussed that; the Tigers’ to-do list for the rest of the season; and the retirement of a @UMichAthletics legend. You can read or listen… michiganpublic.org/sports/2025-07…
"...the reader can barely breath. I don't know if I have ever read a sequence so harrowing as the storm and the fate of the Edmund Fitzgerald." -Bill Carl, buyer at An Unlikely Story, an indie store owned by Jeff Kinney @wimpykid, author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid megaseries.
"This is narrative non-fiction at its very best. Readers who like David Grann, Candice Millard, & Erik Larsen will devour this terrific book. My vote for the non-fiction read of the season!" --Bill Carl, Book Buyer at An Unlikely Story in Plainville, MA. THANK YOU, BILL!
Preach.
Sorry but endless interviews make All Star Game almost unwatchable. A hot take I can no longer share with the country tomorrow afternoon at 5 Eastern, so you get it here. Shuddup and let em play!
Great thanks, @PerfectFitAR !
A great book on leadership is this one by @Johnubacon. Check it out, Andy.

Happy Canada Day to all who celebrate -- and all should. Why not? (Full disclosure: as the son of an American father and a Canadian mother, I am in fact Half-Canadian Bacon.)
Right now, #Tigers Gleyber Torres, Riley Greene and Javy Baez are in position to start for the AL in the All-Star Game.
A fun conversation with my old AA News colleague and housemate from the starving writer days, @Douglas_T_Hill
I'm joined in my 200th episode by NYT best-selling author @Johnubacon. John talks about his fan journey, the writing process, & his upcoming book, "The Gales of November: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald." There are also plenty of digressions:-) thesportsfanproject.com/podcast/
I would just like to point out that this is a real thing that actually happened.
Hats off to Sam Bennett, and hard to argue with those numbers. But for my money, Brad Marchand -- the player everyone loves to hate -- might have been the difference. Grit when they needed it most.
BENNETT IS THE CONN SMYTHE WINNER! 👏 After leading the League with 15 goals through the postseason, Sam Bennett has been crowned the MVP of these #StanleyCup Playoffs.
