I agree with this. But there has to be a bubble at some point. Everything pops eventually. You don’t want to mortgage your future to make the wrong jump. The ACC, in my opinion, makes more sense for Memphis. And if offered that deal the ACC should take it.
Everyone wants to laugh, but if you do you aren't seeing the big picture. The story isn't that Memphis tried to buy their way into the Big 12. The story is that they feel like they have to. That's what the impending "superleague" era of college sports is doing to everyone.

Free agent Doug McDermott has agreed to a one-year, $3.6 million deal to return to the Sacramento Kings, Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of @PrioritySports tell ESPN. McDermott will enter his 12th NBA season after shooting 44% from 3 in 42 Kings games in 2024-25.
This is probably a “good it didn’t happen” deal for Memphis. Know they want to be in a bigger conference. But a lot would need to go right for this to end well
