Building @instant_db
This launch has been a real labor of love. You can now spin up full-stack backends directly from Cursor, Claude Code, or your agent of choice with Instant. This is the easiest it's been to give Instant a spin and build something delightful :)
Today @instant_db is releasing an API to let humans and agents spin up full-stack backends Each backend comes with database, sync engine, auth tools, file storage, as well as presence And it's all hosted on multi-tenant infra You can create millions of DBs in milliseconds
If you wanna hack this weekend in NY check out this event by my friend @lilianbuilds !
we got several @ycombinator founders and companies attending + sponsoring, some of the top 1% of NY builders signed up already, and even a @TEDTalks speaker: lu.ma/c7373swe
Excited to have you onboard @drewh_net !
Welcome @drewh_net to the team! Drew joined us a week ago. He’s got typescript chops, one of the best Neovim setups we’ve seen, and he's making PR after PR to improve Instant’s devex. Left to right: @nikitonsky, @JoeAverbukh, @stopachka, @drewh_net, @DanielWoelfel
Heck yeah @betomoedano ! What's so fun about this is most of this video isn't even about the DB. When you've got the right abstraction you can just focus on building :)
Local-first. Multiplayer. Offline-ready. With @instant_db, you can build apps that sync in real time and run offline — without managing any backend infrastructure. This demo from @betomoedano walks through the full experience using Expo: youtu.be/DEJIcaGN3vY
🤔 Imagine if your backend worked like `useState`. No API calls. No fetching. Just reactive, real-time state that syncs across devices. That’s what InstantDB is doing. With Instant your frontend gets a real-time database. You write queries that stay in sync and work offline.…
I remember in the 2010s how delightful it was to use things like Rails and Heroku to productively build and deploy apps. So awesome for devs to have tools like @cursor_ai and @vercel these days to hack on ideas. Was fun to get this working in one take :)
Today we announce Instant’s MCP! Here's Joe using it to build a clone of Reddit's r/place in with @instant_db and @cursor_ai The video is done in 1 take. At the end Joe has a full-stack stack app with real-time queries, in production, in less than 5 minutes.
Come build the future of front-end tech with us!
We're looking for talented individuals interested in solving some of the hardest problems in real-time databases and front-end technology. If you love building delightful developer experiences and want to work on cutting-edge tech, we want to hear from you!
Come join us to work on the most interesting problems in frontend tech :)
Instant is hiring a founding Typescript hacker to join us in SF. If you are: 1) obsessed with type ergonomics (even with how types look in intellisense) 2) enjoy building UIs that people use for hours 3) want to build a sync engine Then we want to talk you!
As each feature gets shipped, the whole of Instant becomes more and more formidable. Lots got done last two months, really excited for what's coming next too :)
The new year felt like yesterday...where did all the time go?! It's been a whirlwind hacking for you :) Here's what's been shipped since the start of the year: Select Fields, Storage, Cascade on Delete, Better Explorer, and a bunch quality of life improvements!
