This is just horrible. Tomorrow may be worse. Hoping all stay safe! Our field site is within the evacuation zone of this and a prior fire this spring. It was just looking like we might be able to get in to check our cameras. This won’t be over soon.
The South Fork Fire is now over 4,000 acres in size, and has caused the evacuation of the ENTIRE village of Ruidoso. The only evacuation route is Highway 70 to Roswell. The fire was first reported at 9:07 this morning. #NMFire #NMwx

Enjoyed a visit to @UNM_MSB Mammal Division and @MSBDGR with two new @nmsu_fwce grad students. Always a good day when the value of museum specimens is highlighted. The liquid nitrogen tissue storage system is truly awesome.

Today our seminal paper on the ecology of the Peñasco least chipmunk was published the same day that this chipmunk was listed as federally ENDANGERED with critical habitat, in part based on our work. academic.oup.com/jmammal/advanc…

The @nmsu_fwce NMSU student chapters of the @AmFisheriesSoc and @wildlifesociety hosted a very successful Welcome Barbeque yesterday evening that included recognition of student scholarship recipients and many guests from local natural resource agencies.

I am looking for examples of research that have created species distribution models for large numbers (>300) of species, especially where proper regularization is involved. Can you help?
Was thrilled to share what we’ve learned about one of the rarest mammals in North America, the Peñasco Least Chipmunk, to biologists from @USFWS @LincolnUSForest and Mescalero Apache Tribe. Secured 2 biopsy samples for FWS Biobanking Project @sandiegozoo
