Exactly. Fundamental care. Too much of which is expected to be delivered by nursing support staff, placing unrealistic demands on them, in my opinion. Everyone loses if nursing care not got sufficient RN expertise in the mix.
The little "chit chats" we have at the start of a meeting or Teams call (where we talk about our weekends, the weather, our pets or the traffic) are really important. Research shows that they actually work as a neural 'warm-up' for a deeper connection. So the next time we get…
Brilliant to see Marcus Wooton & Elsa Alfonso of the RCN Institute’s International Academy lead a key note session at RCN Congress, on nurses working in conflict areas.

It was the last story I did for HSJ - we did FOIs to get the full data. That was published in 2019: x.com/ShaunLintern/s…
HSJ analysed safe staffing data for every NHS trust from 2014-2019 - which @NHSEngland no longer publishes. Key findings of my analysis:
I’m reminded of the piece you wrote @ShaunLintern based on analysis of fill rates data - when was that? Seem to me a major issue is the chronic nature of nurse understaffing… it’s been ‘news’ for over a decade.

Why do nurses enter or leave nursing? Factors are many & some vary by career stage. Policy & management practices aimed at increasing retention need to be nuanced to take account of what matters most to whom, at what career stage @ZEjebu @annemarieraffer sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
