Per latest reporting, 135 have been confirmed dead in the July 4th Texas flooding. The disaster is the fourth deadliest "freshwater" flood event in the US since 1969- only Rapid City '72, Camille (in Virginia) '69, Big Thompson '76 deadlier.
119 deaths means the Texas floods have surpassed Agnes to become the fifth deadliest fresh-water (rain induced) flood disaster since 1969. Hard to overstate how much this catastrophe is changing the way I see modern flood vulnerability
I have finally put together my thoughts on the enormity of Friday morning's Texas flood. Mostly it is a meditation on the historical context of such a hyper-local flood killing 104 people, something that really hasn't happened in nearly 50 years.
