I've written my second post for Future of Geography. "Nationalism generates environmental goods. The internationalist politics of climate do not." substackfwd.xyz/?url=https://f…

Admittedly the word "bugman" was an intentional provocation, and I reap what I sow. But I'm still surprised by the total vitriol this generated. I think nuclear power is superior because I don't think it's an environmental good to have landscapes cluttered with metal. That's…
The bugman does not understand what’s environmentally wrong with wind/solar because he wasnt planning on climbing that peak anyway; wasnt planning on camping in that desert arroyo anyway; wasnt planning on sailing in that bay anyway. For the bugman the world outside his bughive…
The human formula-spouters are becoming very unhappy.
no one is stupider than social scientists
One thing I thought was interesting about the otherwise pretty forgettable Johnny Depp movie about Whitey Bulger was they re-created the Central Artery for the "gritty vibe." I wonder if one day that viaduct will be considered another nostalgia piece from the ghostly "lost…
I mean the Big Dig has made walking around Boston more pleasant. I agree the city tourists go to view is fundamentally the Yankee-Brahmin city of 1630-1930.
Anyone else rembember Suey Park and "Cancel Colbert" from the early days of the Awokening? He finally got cancelled, Suey!
France's TGV rail system and nuclear power system. Built in late 20th centry, to assert sovereignty of De Gaulle's French Fifth Republic. These systems werent built through "climate politics", but through desire for sovereignty. No other desire builds.
I’m a sailor and I would never sail in areas with offshore wind turbines because they are in the middle of nowhere.

This is mostly a US phenomenon (other countries have built architecturally grand new airports this century). I suspect it's bc the American upper-upper tier has their own airports now (eg NYC's Teterboro). Whereas a century ago they used the same train station as everyone else
I hate how old train stations were cathedrals to prosperity and airports now are just the dingy bus stations of the sky
US Peace Corps could have been this, actually. Maybe not police jobs, but working on ranches? Why not?
The British empire gave lads opportunities unimaginable today. Posters in British railway stations advertised jobs in the Palestine police, or plantations in Malaya, or ranches in Rhodesia. My grandad left England for Australia at 16. So claustrophobic now in comparison.
Bluesky must be failing and they're coming back here, bc I'm getting random angry replies which use "-adjacent" as a suffix and this kind of thing
