The following schools have filed the paperwork asking to join the @pac12 @ColoradoStateU @GoAztecs @SMU @UNLVathletics @GreenWaveFB @USFFootball @TigersAthletics @BroncoSportsFB @FresnoStateFB @TulsaFootball @RiceFootball there are more but I think you get the idea- Note to San…
Ed I have a few minor health issues but all is good now and as we get closer to football season it's always fun to come back in and hang out with you guys.
You sure have been active on X lately compared to the last few months.
Something to think about. @bigten & @sec are in talks to play each other between 12 and 20 games a year. The goal is to create Marquee matchups on a weekly basis. @TexasFootball vs @OhioStateFB or @AlabamaFTBL vs. @PennStateFball and @USC_Athletics at @UMichFootball to dominate…
Fun fact! Since @CuseFootball @CanesFootball @BostonCollege @LouisvilleFB and @Pitt_FB left the old Big East conference to join the ACC. The only team to win an ACC football championship is @Pitt_FB in 2021
Hey improvement is good if it's only one win more
LA schools blocking the AZ schools? That's interesting and the first I've heard of that. I wonder what the motivation would be exactly? Either way I expect Arizona to be better due to far better offensive coordinator, still wouldn't expect more than 6 wins though.
David we will wait and see. But a fair question to ask.
This is the very question I ask. The Mountain Time Zone is the media ‘empty quarter’ of the nation. 5 programs have emerged over the past half century; Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Colorado & Utah. How attractive any of these 5 are to the B1G/SEC is doubtful at this point. ACC…
Hi cat good to see you!! The addition of the mountain time zone school to the conference is simply one of the issues they are talking about before possible expansion. The presumption is the LA schools could block Zona and ASU. But again this is an idea on a list of many…
Are we going to ignore the other two major schools that play in the Mountain time zone half the year?
According to Nielsen over a nearly ten year span Utah crushed Colorado and was the best team in the mountain time zone. That changed with Coach Prime b/c of the national games they played. The questions that the Big Ten will be asking is do they want or need a team in the…
The truth is Utah lacks a football pedigree sufficient to attract interest from the SEC or Big Ten. Utah doesn't fit the SEC culture and It's market doesn't appeal to the Big Ten or SEC. Where does the inflated value come from?
I can't tell it isn't. But I will tell you will see more colleges playing games in Europe. The NFL expects to have six to eight regular season games being played outside the US. That will allow them to sell the package to a steaming service allowing for a global audience and…
Tell us this streaming is not driving the nonsensical Michigan/WMU game in Germany
CW if you are talking with me I don't recall talking about a Pew Research report. I did talk about a changing market but if you could show me the tweet I would like to see it. Thanks as always for your conversation
A few tweets ago you mentioned the changing market. You even alluded to the Pew Research report. Carriage fees are expected to flatten out in 2018 and decline thereafter... that hurts UNC because the bulk of their value would be in carriage fees.
It's true
Clemson and FSU are 68% of the ACC's viewership in T1 broadcasts. UL and Miami are far behind... but those four are more than 80%. Data from the past 15 years for games broadcast on ABC or ESPN in national windows.
Luke being honest likely @FSUFootball @ClemsonFB is a better fit for the @sec. As for Utah to the B1G it remains a long shot. But I have said before a long shot is better than no shot
I know Utah is #1 on the ACC list if/when Clemson or FSU leave. So I would think BIG10 has them also, question is who does BIG10 want first Clemson/FSU or Utah???
Hey you go to the experts when you want to know what is going with @RaysBaseball sale & stadium deal. You are the man.
Thanks Jim!! Huge compliment coming from a legend in the business!! Much appreciated
I think you are correct and my use of the term dead weight was a poor turn of phrase.
I think the “title hopes or dead weight” is a false dichotomy. Is college football different without Nebraska, Miami, Missouri, Iowa, Ole Miss, Pitt…etc etc? Yeah, I’d argue those schools make college football better on an annual basis. But none of them are contending right now
Over 2015 to 2024 The Conference Champions @Bigten @OhioStateFB @UMichFootball @PennStateFball & @MSU_Football @theACC @ClemsonFB @FSUFootball & @Pitt_FB @sec @AlabamaFTBL @GeorgiaFootball & @LSUfootball It's not fair to judge the @big12 since @OU_Football & @TexasFootballb…
I was thinking about 70 percent but I will accept your number.
80 percent of every conference is dead weight.
CP: I think so. It seems to be trending that way
Can I add to your question? Are we seeing an evolution where all sports conferences cease to exist? For example, could schools be part of separate football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and Olympics conferences?
I'd love to ask you all a question and I'm looking forward to seeing the replies. Q: I see a number of people talking about expanding the conferences to 20 to 24 teams. Please tell realistically how many teams in @bigten @SEC @@Big12 and @theACC have a realistic chance at…
You raise a very good point because somewhere there's going to be a great deal of dead weight in these conferences who are expanding to 24 hell even 20.
My question is what will the Big 10 be worth if it bloats to 24 schools? We are already seeing backlash to the Big 10’s attempts to squeeze everyone else. IMO national interest would wane with homogenization. Boxing suffered similarly when fighters signed with one promoter.
Getting a great deal of questions about how much did @RFootball joining the @bigten help exposure of the university? According to Scarborough Sports Marketing, New York City has about 1.4 million Rutgers fans, prior to their joining the conference they had 607,157. Two other…
