“Israel has killed a classroom full of children every single day.” UNRWA Sam Rose tells BBC Radio 4. Children in #Gaza have been killed while sleeping, sheltering in schools, or queuing for water. Graphic by @TRTWorld
“I’ve done a lot for a simple working-class guy. I made a lot of people smile. I’ve also made a lot of people go, ‘Who the f--- does this guy think he is?” RIP Ozzy Osbourne - a true British icon The sounds of industrial working class Birmingham will live on 🤘
Re: water nationalisation One of the great things about Parliamentary sovereignty is the UK government can name its price when it comes to compensation in a nationalisation bill. Shareholders might sue under the ECHR, but the government should be prepared to have this fight.
Mamdani here does something I've been pleading with prominent Democrats to do for years: anticipate bad-faith right-wing attacks, and pre-empt them, draining them of most of their force. And he proves you don't have to be severe or scoldy about it.
Good morning! I'm in Uganda to visit family and friends. But depending on your perspective, don't worry or I'm sorry: I'll be back by the end of the month. See you soon, NYC.

I do think small derisions of heritage, culture and practice, in the name of efficiency contributes to a narrative of decline. It’s such a shame.
EXCL: Government will stop using wax seals on official documents. Seals were first used by Kings 1,000 years ago and have been used by the Govt for 150 years. It will be scrapped as part of red tape slashing drive to speed up govt for taxpayers Fab story by @SophiaSleigh
The house always wins—unless we change the rules. 🎲 I’m backing a new Gambling Act to protect lives, not profits. First step Let’s end “aim to permit” #GamblingReform 🔗 theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
When Nelson Mandela visited London after his release, he called the British Anti-Apartheid Movement a source of hope during his darkest days. It’s something we’re immensely proud of. I was humbled to meet his family in Johannesburg today. #MandelaDay2025
Hello Accra 🇬🇭 Great to be here as part of the first mayoral trade mission to Africa to deepen our cultural ties, boost trade and bang the drum for London. I look forward to strengthening our ties as vibrant capital cities that have innovation and creativity at their heart.
“I have no ideological position on this conflict. I approach it simply as a lawyer and a historian. But I sometimes wonder what Israel’s defenders would regard as unacceptable, if the current level of Israeli violence in Gaza is not enough. This is not self-defence. It is not…
After my dad died, we were given a 30-day eviction notice and were nearly forced onto the street right after losing him. That’s why succession rights exist, Tom. Stability, security and affordability shouldn’t just be reserved for people whose parents leave them a house in the…
What possible defence is there for someone *inheriting* social housing? It seems to be an utterly perverse system of taxpayer funded privilege. A feudal right to live in a valuable property, often in the most expensive areas of the country, just because a relative lived there.
Glad to see Labour MPs pushing back against the OBR. It is an absurd situation that government has functionally ceded its autonomy over economic policy in service of producing favourable OBR forecasts which will likely be inaccurate anyway. share.google/nx4XaGq3DpbAw9…
No other country does this. After reading the story it’s not a case of misreporting, either. The school has apologised. Imagine being isolated for dressing as Geri Halliwell!
Time to stop using @WeTransfer who from 8th August have decided they'll own anything you transfer to power AI
The British right is redefining ‘working class’ to include landowning farmers and business owners whilst denigrating unionised public sector workers as ‘parasites’.
I’m in deep England, where you can buy quail eggs and leave your money in the honesty box.
