I am excited to finally write this. I've been thinking about doing a PRIDE book for years. It's sports. It's true crime. It's drama and glory. Also, may be my last chance to write about MMA, so I'm going to do my best to finally get the history of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu right.

I just finished the first draft of this book. 163,390 words for anyone keeping track. Nervous about people reading it. Really nervous about Bret reading it. 😬
New Book Announcement: "The Era of the Hitman" @TwoManPowerTrip and I talked to @BretHart for more than 25 hrs about his legendary WWF singles run. The result is an in-depth look at a singular genius who discussed his craft in great detail. Coming in 2026 from @ecwpress.
over at my site, @JESnowden guest stars with a great piece on the complicated legacy of Rupert Murdoch, a guy who understood how to sell the news at all costs oliverbatemandoesthework.substack.com/p/the-work-of-…
Thanks to my pal @MoustacheClubUS for letting me venture outside my usual lane for a story about one of my favorite topics: the news! I've recently read a couple of books about the state of the industry and had some thoughts. open.substack.com/pub/oliverbate…

Caitlin Clark's starting point for WNBA negotiations should be team ownership. I'm not kidding.

The second fighter I ever interviewed was Frank Shamrock, the best fighter of the time. MMA media used to be the wild West
I *believe* @DustinPoirier was the second fighter I ever interviewed in my career. He was absolutely the first fighter I ever interviewed for a radio show or podcast.
Anthony Kiedis imo
Is Theo Von the GOAT of celebrity MMA fans? I vote yes #UFC318
Does anyone at all understand the new thing where Dave Meltzer claims that his star ratings are unrelated to his personal tastes? I am legitimately at a loss. When did he start this stuff?
Something really funny I found in the newspaper when researching the end of Bret Hart's career for my new book. I don't think this aged very well! Follow the arrows. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

There's a class of wrestling fans who exist in all the different wrestling subcultures, and they get so mad when people like things. We get it. You're such a great, sophisticated fan that you think it all stinks. Amazing. Such intellect and sophistication.
Ending a book is hard. How do you end a book about Bret Hart's WWF career? "And, in conclusion, fuck Bill Godlberg forever."

You can likely count the number of people who aren't former fighters making $100K or more from MMA media on one hand. Certainly as journalists. I'm not as clear on what an "influencer" makes.
Ariel Helwani is asked about the MMA media landscape: 'There's a lot of talk about the MMA media landscape and how there is not a lot of money to be made or really the ability to make much of a career out of it. Is this a sentiment you share? How do you assess the landscape…
If you are a wrestling fan and want to clean up your timeline, there are a ton of weirdos mad about AEW in the replies here.
If you claim to be a fan of pro wrestling and can't find anything to love about AEW...I don't believe you. You're lying. There's something there for everyone.
