Author of award-winning bestseller 'An Irish Atlantic Rainforest'. 16 years living with 73 acres of wildland. MOVED TO BLUESKY: http://irishrainforest.bsky.social
After 2 years of work, I've finally taken delivery of an actual printed copy of my second book 'The Magic of an Irish Rainforest: A Visual Journey'. I've done my best to capture the essence of these priceless, but mostly dying, ecosystems, and am over the moon with the results.

In Glengarriff Woods: something sadly rare in my place: old holly trees. This species is super vulnerable to bark-stripping (causing death) by invasive sika deer + goats. And it's such a shame: despite the lack of epiphytic growths, holly becomes a very special tree as it ages.

On the day that Trump takes over in the USA, this will be my last ever post on this platform. Why? X has been turned into a weapon for global fascism, and engaging on here helps fuel that. I've moved to Bluesky (WAY better), and urge you to do likewise. See you there!! 🌍

Epiphytic hart's tongue fern. Irish rainforest magic. 🌎

'The Magic of an Irish Rainforest' in good company alongside Seán Ronayne @SoundsIrish's 'Nature Boy' on the top shelf of @eason Dundrum's bestselling books. @HachetteIre

The character of time written in the trees; cold winters, heat, encounters with wind & humans. #TreesAreMyBestFriends yours too
A hulking old alder in Uragh Woods, Beara. Ancient trees like this are so special and rare. But just imagine how once, they were almost everywhere. 🌏

Hard to fathom the mentality of people who shoot protected birds, like this female White-tailed Eagle, collected from a nest in Verdal, Norway, in 2022 as part of the reintroduction programme... Rare white-tailed eagle shot dead in Co Westmeath rte.ie/news/2025/0114… via @rte
Pottering about with the dog in an area of full throttle natural regeneration, and a brief winter shower sweeps through. Long enough to run for rocky cover, and be forced to stand and enjoy a spectacular Atlantic panorama. 🌎

"Exquisite photography and words create a precious window on to our rich last fragments of native Irish rainforest. Informative, poetic writing extends this way beyond a coffee-table book." High praise for 'The Magic of an Irish Rainforest' in yesterday's @IrishTimes.

A forest aflame with vibrant colour, Glengarriff. 🌎

Have a copy myself on loan from @dubcilib, half way through, great read so far, you should be Minister for the Environment, keep up the good work.
I was in the wonderful @WaterstonesCrk earlier, signing copies of 'The Magic of an Irish Rainforest'. Apparently the book has been selling "fantastically well"!! @HachetteIre

Older ivy stems can resemble tropical serpents, the way they wrap themselves around trees. The magic of an Irish rainforest 🌏
