Toilet blocks/fresheners are typically placed in the rim/bowl & contain ingredients such as disinfectants, detergents, bleach, pine oil that may cause GI/ocular/dermal irritation and other features. If accidental poisoning occurs, call @IrelandNpic for prompt advice.

Disinfectants, antibacterial cleaners & biocidal products are essential items on our shopping lists. Store these products safely out of reach & sight of children as they are potentially toxic if accidentally ingested & via skin/eye exposure. Call @IrelandNpic for advice if needed

Never transfer chemicals from their original containers to water bottles/beverage bottles. The original bottle contains important information on ingredients, composition, pH, what the product is used for and safety advice. If someone is poisoned, this information is vital.

It's easy to accidentally overdose with medicine especially when giving children analgesics for pain relief or fever. Sometimes the recommended daily dose is exceeded as different medicines that have similar ingredients are given. Call @IrelandNpic for advice if overdose occurs.

MYTH: Safety caps on chemical products and medicines are "child-proof" FACT: These caps are child-resistant NOT child-proof. They slow down children getting access but some children can open caps quickly and without difficulty. Store chemicals and medicine safely.

Codeine is a potent opioid analgesic that is associated with dose-related toxicity. Mild toxicity can cause GI upset, anxiety and agitation. With severe toxicity there can be sedation, miosis, CNS and respiratory depression. Call @IrelandNpic for advice if poisoning occurs

The toxicity of house plants will vary depending on the species, the presence of known toxins, plant parts and route of exposure (ingestion, eye, skin contact). Symptoms can vary and may be delayed. Call @IrelandNpic for advice if poisoning is suspected.

Instant cooling fluid/ice packs used to treat sports injuries usually contain urea and water, however ammonium nitrate (which is more toxic) was used in older products. If poisoning occurs via ingestion of the contents, call @IrelandNpic for urgent advice.

Muscle rub gels often contain mixtures of methyl salicylate and essential oils which are potentially highly toxic. Toxicity can occur via ingestion, eye contact and prolonged contact with injured skin. Always seek medical advice from @IrelandNpic if poisoning occurs
