Junior doc. ED by way of Ortho. Was good at riding bikes, now just rides bikes. Passionate about Rural Health.
It's not even 11am and EVERY patient I have been called about today is a shoulder dislocation. What a weird day
This forum opened up a career in medicine and made acceptance to med school possible for so many applicants who didn't have social connections to those in the know. Superceded by Reddit I assume. A sad day. But thanks Paging Dr
#pagingdrforum is now closed. Thanks for everyone who supported and contributed to the forum over the past seventeen years.
Hey, it's me. Talking with Dr Kara Thompson about childbirth, elective inductions, motherhood in Orthopaedics and autonomy in the public health system open.spotify.com/episode/6nqOeg…
Surgery residents: Some attendings may insist that you 'palm' the needle holder, but the 'fingers-in-holes' method is also perfectly acceptable...shown here are photos of this grip being used by: Denton Cooley, Michael DeBakey, Harvey Cushing, Norman Shumway, and Mont Reid.
My kid's viral gastro has managed to take down the entire psychiatry department 🤦♀️
Nothing has made me feel older than getting an email invitation to be a med school OSCE examiner 😬
Hospitals. Watch = bad Theatre scrubs with giant gape and underwear on show = fine

Here's a question. In 2024, if a patient beyond 39 weeks gestation experiences a catastrophic acute pregnancy complication (placental abruption, mec asp etc.) resulting in stillbirth and they were never offered eIOL at 39 weeks could you make a case for medical negligence?
Now the earliest possible daycare places would be Jan 2026 when my son is 2 yrs old. Daycare centres are still going through people from the list from 2022. So we continue to pay more per hr for a nanny than I earn as a rural junior doctor. Honestly, fuck this shit.
How much of the cafe / takeaway business returning to the CBD is just being robbed from small businesses in the suburbs people are working from? Other beneficiaries include, Toll road operators, car parks, transport operators, petrol stations, vehicle servicing centres.

I think this all the time. It's the same in Australia and a huge reason why Medicare rebates for General Practice
I don’t see it as a coincidence that the more women have got into medicine the more it has been devalued. Less pay, more unqualified people think they could easily do the job, less respect for what we do. The male doctor classically seen pre 1990s was the beacon of societal…
Being released on bail after breaching AVOs is how women end up murdered. What's the point in having AVOs if there are no tangible consequences for breaching them

Harry Garside is a class act and absolute kudos to him for openly voicing his sadness, disappointment and grief. Has done the nation proud not just for his boxing but his eloquent reflections on the journey. #ParisOlympics2024
When Telstra forces the hospital's hand to upgrade the orthopaedic on call phone 😂

Here’s what they don’t tell you as a young med student. The brand new attending you see w/ massive houses, new sports cars, destination weddings…well their parents paid all their tuition/rent, gave them the house down payment, and paid for the wedding. That’s not gunna be you.
Five months in the same hospital department (Anaesthesia - still loving it) —the longest since my internship four years ago. Reflecting and enjoying on how being in one place longer allows for deeper connections and excellent professional growth.
My son is 6 months old and I have just learned that you don't typically put the baby bath inside the big bath when you bathe them 🤦♀️
