So let’s sum this up: Land was originally Ikwerre (Rebisi) land. Ikwerre are a branch of the Igbo. British took the land under pressure in 1913. Willink Report confirms it was Igbo land. WACA judgment (as widely reported) confirmed this too. No appeal ever overturned it.
So what did the British say about Port Harcourt? The Report clearly stated: “Port Harcourt was built on land belonging to a branch of the Ibo — the Diobu (Ikwerre).” The British themselves confirmed that the land belonged to Ikwerre, and that Ikwerre are a branch of the Igbo.
Because Port Harcourt is an Igbo town. “it is built on land that belonged originally to an outlying branch of the Ibo tribe (Igbo), the Diobus,” (Rebisi-Ikwerre). Read; Willink's Commission Report of 1958.
