The piano for which Wigmore Hall was built. A Bechstein created as Wigmore (or Bechstein) Hall was commissioned, its acoustic designed to do justice to this piano. Join me for our global live stream with the Chiaroscuro Quartet at 8pm tonight London time. youtube.com/live/fPINWRZOS…

Well give me live music any day. You don’t get the quality of those astonishing recordings without live performance, and I would hardly describe @SCOmusic a ‘chamber’ orchestra when they played the Beethoven. It was the size he demands Far from anaemic. Why not take a listen.
No. Chamber orchestras often sound a bit anaemic to these ears. In this instance one needed a palate cleanse in the form of the great Kleiber's Beethoven recordings.
Agreed Nick. I will be listening again myself @BBCRadio3 @BBCSounds bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…
Yes! Beethoven 5 got precisely the right treatment, not weighty and laboured, but full of SCO freshness. Reminded me of the late Mozart symphonies with Charles Mackerras. Wonderful playing!
Electrifying performance @SCOmusic @bbcproms last night and fascinating convo with @PastMortems and @JayCapperauld in the interval about Bruckner’s obsession with skulls and the history of death masks. Could have talked some more with them both. Catch up @BBCSounds Its worth it!

If there’s a Jingling Johnny @bbcproms then you know it’s going to be a stand out night. And if you have one of the big up and coming stars of the piano world involved it’s bound to be! @SCOmusic is in town all, as he at the scene expliques.
Hell-O. Now, there’s a hairstyle. Your suggestions don’t have to be quite so coiffed, but hens, the sound of clucking in music, or something completely left field welcome on Essential Classic as we build a playlist today. Hear how I’m setting off the search at 10 @BBCRadio3.

Gorgeous morning in London town. Blue skies prevail over Broadcasting House. A stack of Essential Classics prevails all morning @BBCRadio3. Join me from 9.30 for plenty of great music, some of which you may know, some that will intrigue you and surprise.

To the Proms live @BBCRadio3 and @BBCSounds for a night of tricks and treats from @BBCSO from 7.30. Our man at the scene… sets the scene.
It’s that time again when @BBCRadio3 presenters all feel really stressed and on edge… or maybe not. There is something very special about @bbcproms that makes us all feel really relaxed, so we can thoroughly enjoy bringing you the music. Let the season begin!

Join me at 7.30 tonight @BBCRadio3 for what I can assure you will be a thrilling edition of Radio 3 in Concert. @houghhough joins @BBCSO as the airwaves are filled with two mighty works.... as our man at the scene explains.
That’s very kind of you to say Ian. It is a fascinating craft I must say.
Agreed. A real treat. Like old times. Listening to @Ianskellyradio3 of late on Essential Classics has also been a real joy. The truth is these broadcasters make you feel they are just talking to you and no one else - that’s a real gift. Well informed. They never sound scripted.
It has been a tremendous season of concerts @wigmore_hall with @BorisGiltburg playing all 32 of Beethoven’s piano sonatas. I’ve hosted every one and tonight it’s the grand finale. Why not join me at 8 on Wigmore’s YouTube channel or any time after. youtube.com/live/uKS0iCkV6…

Congratulations Owain. Exciting times ahead.
Some very happy news for the @BBCSingers. Delighted for you, @owainpark — and thank you for everything, @sjeannin: bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/20….
This was exceptional. @henriksandas joined @BBCCO and me on stage at the Queen Elizabeth Hall for music by Sibelius and Finland's national dance craze, the tango. Henrik blowing us away with his playing of Piazzolla's music. It was @BBCRadio3, now @BBCSounds. Worth seeking out.

Much missed. You, Catherine, not the AMS.
Last Sunday in June and the 2nd anniversary of my last live show on a well-known radio station. So of course, earworm of the day is by Alice Mary Smith (Symphony in a minor, finale) as a reminder that I never have to hear it again. There are many great women composers...
When you come home from presenting Essential Classics @BBCRadio3 and a room in your house has become a recording studio and rehearsal space for Glastonbury. Rather lovely but very different from what they do on stage @BareJams. youtu.be/2t8m8PyyxvU?si…
Marvellous. Great to have you along Stephen.
Had to drive home from Northallerton this morning. Put on @BBCRadio3 out of habit, and simply gorged on a wonderful feast of exquisite music during the last hour of @Ianskellyradio3 What a treat! ❤️❤️❤️ And I only had to turn off one trailer.
Friday morning is go! Join in the challenge of creating a sequence of music out of Essential Classics @BBCRadio3 all inspired today by a happy bunch of sailors heading home. I have ear worms a plenty and a gorgeous Song of the Day from Finzi and Shakespeare. Join me from 9.30.

The highs and lows of love are the starting point for what may be a poignant playlist if I know you. Eric Whitacre provides the impulse with a young romance that flips as it follows the circle of life. “It is time.” 9.30 to be precise. Essential Classics @BBCRadio3 .

Edward Elgar, Arnold Bax, Frank Bridge all had strong associations with the South Downs. Any music by them, or others, would build a playlist inspired by John Ireland’s A Downland Suite. Join me on Essential Classics and help make it happen from 9.30 til 1 @BBCRadio3.
