Welcome home to about 155 Soldiers from the Illinois National Guard’s 2-106th Cavalry. They reunited with friends and family in Bloomington after a 10-month deployment to Africa. The Soldiers conducted security ops overseas.

The newest member of the Illinois Army National Guard has a familiar surname. Noah Helfrich, who enlisted as a 12N (Horizontal Construction Engineer) into the Sparta-based 631st Engineer Co., July 2, is the son of 404th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade Commander Col. David Helfrich.

Congrats to 1st Lt. Kyle Korb and Staff Sgt. Jeremiah Alvarez, from the Illinois Army National Guard's 6th Bn, 54th SFAB. Korb, a nurse, and Alvarez, a maintainer, placed 12 out of 22 in the machine gun competition in the Winston P. Wilson Championship, 23-27 June, in Ark.

The Illinois National Guard and Polish Territorial Defense Force trained side-by-side during Cyber Shield 2025, the largest Department of Defense cyber defense exercise, Virginia Beach, May 30-June 13. This was the 1st year the TDF’s Cyber Division participated in the exercise.

President Donald Trump re-enlisted 250 Soldiers including three Illinois Army National Guard NCOs, Sgt. Nina Harris, Sgt. Stevie Barton, and Sgt. Patrick Murray, during the Army's 250th Birthday event on June 14 in Washington, D.C. The Soldiers were selected by their brigades.
