6 years of displacement stole Jaafar’s family orchard in Sinjar. When he returned after the war, he found dry land & fading memories. But he didn’t give up. With support from the @ICRC, he planted his first olive sapling—by hand. Here’s his story 👇

No child should lose their childhood to conflict. Even though children are 40% of our protection and assistance activities beneficiaries, no assistance will be enough if parties to conflicts don't respect them.

Alaa', Fryad, & Hamza each lost a leg due to war and landmines. Though injured years apart, their stories of resilience meet at the @ICRC’s Physical Rehabilitation Centre in Erbil, Iraq, where they’ve found care, strength, and a path to rebuild their lives.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic killing of our colleague, Ziyad El Toum. We extend our deepest condolences to Ziyad’s wife, extended family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

I dwell in my memories, and hope is my solace... Despite the disappearance of his parents, Sharaf from Mosul steadfastly clings to hope and refuses to abandon it. He retains their clothes, a lasting memory even after many years, as he waits for any news about their fate.

To strengthen emergency medical response in conflict-affected areas, the @ICRC conducted a 2-week Blast Trauma Care training, which included simulations on bleeding, evacuation, triage, & first aid, in Erbil for 38 medics from the Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Agency.

In Erbil, Iraq, the @ICRC conducted a 5-day training on cerebral palsy (CP) to help parents better understand & care for their children with CP. The ICRC also provided wheelchairs to some of them as part of its ongoing support for persons with disabilities & their families.

📍 Gaza | Yesterday, once again, most patients we supported in the Red Cross Field Hospital suffered gunshot injuries, with responsive patients reporting they were wounded on their way to an aid distribution site Out of 149 patients, tragically, 16 were declared dead on arrival.

Eid Mubarak from Iraq! Here’s Hiro, head of the @ICRC office in Mosul, during a field visit earlier this year to communities still affected by previous conflicts. Those communities were supported through livelihood projects by the ICRC.

In Baghdad, the @ICRC held a workshop for 12 members of #Iraq’s Ministry of Defence @modmiliq, at the Human Rights Directorate, to promote the understanding of IHL. Topics included the Geneva Conventions, limits on weapons use, & ways to uphold IHL during armed conflicts.

Abu Talib waited years for news of his missing son. “Even birds grieve the loss of their young,” he says. One day, he received a Red Cross Message from the @ICRC: “Talib is alive.” Many families carry invisible wounds, yet they never lose hope of finding their missing loved ones.
