Yesterday,@ICRC_AfricUnion held a productive exchange with H.E Nakagawa @AmbJapantoAU on preparations for #TICAD9. Discussion focused on collaboration around an ICRC-led side event on the humanitarian impact of #landmines with a focus on Africa.
The @ICRC_AfricUnion briefed @AUC_PAPS on the humanitarian situation across Africa, calling for an urgent action to uphold #IHL, #Safeguard #Humanitarian #Space, and #ProtectCivilians. Member States were also urged to join the Global #IHL Initiative.

There is a historical relationship between #Africa & #IHL. For instance, many #African #Cultures already had rules against inflicting unnecessary suffering or inhumane methods of warfare, aligning well with #IHL principles.
