Illinois Basketball Fact: In 1961, Bryan Williams hit a 64-foot, last second shot to give Danville Schlarman H.S. a 76-75 win over Clinton H.S. in the Decatur IHSA Sweet 16 game. That shot capped a rally which saw them wipe out a 14-point deficit in the final 6:36.

Richard Box scored 17 points in leading Herrin to a victory over undefeated Collinsville in the 1957 state Championship game. The IBCA HOF'er led Herrin back to the state finals in 1958. We thank Paul Baillargeon for this photo that was taken at the Dave Shannahan Golf Event.

Illinois Basketball Fact: Boys Basketball Coach David Luechtefeld began his coaching career at Okawville H.S. in 1962 & concluded his coaching career there in 2000. During his era his teams won 738 games & had 2 Final Four appearances.

Yesterday, at the 9th annual IBCA Southwestern Golf Event also known as the Dave Shannahan Golf Outing, IBCA HOF Coach, David Luechtefeld was the recipient of the Larry Graham Lifetime Service Award. David coached at Okawville High School and is an icon in Illinois.

Illinois Basketball Fact-After winning the 1976 state title, the Mt. Pulaski team got tired of waiting on Coach Butkovich & left the Assembly Hall without him. Thus Coach had to walk out to Kirby Street with the trophy in his green leisure suit & without his wallet & flag a taxi.

Illinois Basketball Fact-(Part 2): One story I will share with you is when Coach Butkovich came up to me before his 1984 semi-final game with St. Mel & stated he had a good feeling they (Mt. Pulaski) would win. They did, 76-74 in one of the biggest upsets in state tourn. history.
