Reza Pahlavi’s deliberate outreach to active elements of the IRGC must be viewed in context. Any political framework that seeks to incorporate a U.S.-designated terrorist entity into its national vision raises serious concerns for those committed to a democratic Iran.

Since 2022, Iranians have chanted loud and clear: “Death to the Oppressor—whether Shah or Supreme Leader.” The growing alignment between Reza Pahlavi and the IRGC, enabled by NUFDI, isn’t about national unity. It’s a maneuver that ultimately maintains the regime’s hold on power.

Reza Pahlavi and NUFDI work in collaboration with the remnants of the notorious SAVAK, praising the single-party rule of the Shah, whitewashing decades of repression, corruption, and authoritarian rule, dependent on foreign powers, and alienating the Iranian people.

Many of Reza Pahlavi’s key allies have ties to the regime. Amir Hossein Etemadi was pardoned by Khamenei after denouncing protests. Erfan Ghanei Fard, a close associate, is pictured with Mohsen Rezaee, ex-IRGC chief wanted for the AMIA bombing.

NUFDI, backing Reza Pahlavi, echoes regime rhetoric, labeling those who have resisted the theocracy for four decades, including 1988 massacre victims, as “terrorists” and a “cult.” These are the same terms used by Khamenei & the IRGC to delegitimize Iran's democratic opposition.

Pahlavi’s outreach is independent nor spontaneous. It is coordinated by NUFDI, founded by his former chief of staff. Based in D.C., NUFDI’s mission is singular: promote Reza Pahlavi and secure U.S. legitimacy for his ambitions.

Reza Pahlavi is seen by opposition voices as a divisive figure, more focused on engaging the IRGC than uniting the people. He’s also rejected by Iran’s nationalities, including Kurds and Baluchis, whom he labels “separatists,” echoing rhetoric used by both monarchy & theocracy.
