Time to revisit a 40-yr-old theory on brain reorganization We longitudinally scanned patients with planned hand amputations and see highly stable hand and face cortical representations before and after arm amputation @plasticity_lab @Chris_I_Baker 🧵1/13 biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…
This work is now published, what a gift on Christmas day. Check out the decade plus of work by @Corbionics to place stimulating electrodes to evoke sensations in the fingers of people with paralysis: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/hb…
After 10 years of implanting Utah Arrays in 5 participants with spinal cord injuries… we provide a methodological roadmap to target and evoke tactile finger sensations using intracortical microstimulation. @John_E_Downey @robert_gaunt1 @jenpgh tinyurl.com/S1roadmap 🧵1/7
20 years and 14 BrainGate participants - our latest preprint delivers the first systematic look at Utah array longevity, stability & decoding accuracy in people! 1/7 medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
I'm thrilled to announce that our work to develop the Neuropixels-NHP 1.0 neural recording probe is now out in print in Nature Neuroscience. nature.com/articles/s4159…
Our brain-to-voice synthesis brain-computer interface paper was published in @Nature today! This neuroprosthesis synthesized the voice of a man with ALS instantaneously, enabling him to ‘speak’ flexibly and modulate the prosody of his BCI-voice. 1/7 Paper: rdcu.be/eqH3C
In an unprecedented move, research-grant reviews have been suspended indefinitely at the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research go.nature.com/4gclXG0

🚨New #preprints alert!🚨 Excited to share our work on #DeepBrainStimulation of the motor thalamus to enhance speech & swallowing. This continues our research led by @LillyTang & me, with guidance from @ElviraPirondini & Jorge Gonzalez-Martinez. 🧠1/8 medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
Excited to share with you our new pre-print on whole-body motor tuning! We revisited the motor homunculus using 20 microelectrode arrays placed in 8 people, to create the first comprehensive map of human motor cortex at single neuron resolution. 1/5 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
5 years ago, on the heels of 28andMe, our team designed a new precision imaging experiment: scanning an individual’s brain throughout her entire pregnancy. We are excited to share that these findings are out today in @NatureNeuro! nature.com/articles/s4159…
After some lovely updates thanks to reviewer/editor feedback, this work is now published in Neuron! cell.com/article/S08966… We find monotonic reward signals in M1/PMd, and interactions of reward value with neural reach signals that correlate with an inverted-U in performance
Excited to announce “A neural basis of choking under pressure” is up on biorxiv, where we look at motor cortical population correlates of reward-mediated performance in primates. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh… Summary in thread below (1/11)
980 Electrodes, 956-2246 days implanted, 11 Utah arrays, three human participants, and 6000 SEM images. Comparing damage of explanted electrodes with in-vivo performance (stimulation + recording) to understand longevity of brain computer interfaces. #BCI medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
THRILLED to announce I’ve received an @NIH F32 fellowship, funded by the @NIMHgov and #BRAINInitiative! Apart of @RNELabs, supervised by @jenpgh and #AaronBatista, I will investigate the capacity for neuroprosthetic training to modify cortical motor circuits. Stay tuned!
