Being good at your job is half the battle. The other half is small talk, happy hours / team lunches, and strategic visibility. I don’t love the game, but I know I have to play it to get ahead.

As I navigate my career pivot, I’ve been connecting with people who already have the roles / skills I’m working toward. I ask about their transitions, the highs & lows, what they wish they knew sooner — and if I can shadow or learn from them in action. It’s been very helpful.
