#OnThisDay July 15, 1923, President Harding’s “Voyage of Understanding” group arrived at Fairbanks. Harding drove a ceremonial 14-karat gold spike at Nenana completing the construction of the Alaska Railroad that began in 1903. (31-1923-a34)
