March 27; 1799, en route to Seringapatam; British troops fought Tipu Sultan's army in Malavalli. While Tipu's forces had suffered 2000 casualties; the British had only 66. The British Victory in Malavalli laid the road open to Seringapatam; the capital of Tipu Sultan鈥檚 Mysore.
1824 May; the British Calcutta was threatened for the first time with possible invasion. The Battle of Ramu; one of the major opening battles of the First Anglo Burmese war where the Burmese routed the British, threatened Chitragong & left the road to Calcutta open for invasion.
