No, I disagree with this. One of the more fascinating war scenarios is the idea of a PMC that becomes large enough and capable enough to be an NGO superpower in it's own right. Metal Gear as a franchise was built on this trope.
It's against PMCs and not Russia or China. So boring ass enemies that should never have the capabilities of a super power.
It's literally impossible to shame the opening of the G.I. Joe movie because it's several minutes of pure, undiluted American patriotism that balled so hard it blew most of the film's animation budget.
