When a student is disrespectful… it’s usually not about the teacher. It’s about the other kids who are watching.
Kids don’t want to be bad. They want to have their needs met. It’s always a good thing when we can focus on understanding the students and meeting their needs… rather than just reacting to the “bad behavior.”

One of the best things a teacher can do in the course of the day is to have a conversation with a student about something other than school.
Effective teachers are not just “gifted educators.” They work hard to plan meaningful lessons. They work hard to connect with their students and inspire them. Their level of commitment always matters. And I’m so grateful for it!
No program in the school will ever exceed the passion of the adults implementing it.

Since she finally made it Instagram official, I'm excited to share that Kate Thomas has verbally committed to continue her academic and soccer journey Mount St Joseph University in Cincinnati! So proud to see her hard work pay off! @katetsoccer @WAVEsoc @nsrnow
I found that the more I greeted students in the hallway, the more they made eye contact with me… and the more they initiated a greeting with me the next day. It’s usually not that hard to make connections with kids… but the adults need to be willing to take the first step.
Teachers have the ability to give students something that is far more valuable than good grades on a report card. They can give them hope.
Kids appreciate teachers who don’t take themselves too seriously. A little vulnerability from the teacher goes a long way in building class climate.
Let’s take a moment to celebrate the incredible work of our students and teachers at Gallatin High School! The 2024–25 school year was a record-setting year for GHS in Advanced Placement courses — with the highest number of AP exams taken, college credits earned, perfect scores…
