Check on the Executive.
This was the only thing that really bugged me about the Gawker privacy case.
Legally, we were right. That's the law. But I think Gawker had a legitimate argument in the court of public opinion there. Because obviously there is a danger of a massive damage award that ISN'T legally justified, against a journalist or publisher.
"If Democrats blame the cost of living on corporations with 2% profit margins, their attempts to make life in America cheaper will fare no better than Trump’s, and will lead to similar disillusionment."
Progressive anti-neoliberalism is not going to work. But that doesn't mean Democrats should entirely return to the policies of Bill Clinton. noahpinion.blog/p/should-democ…
The Nazis were the all-time world champion of genocide, and more people should realize that. Their total number of intentional murder victims was more like 20 million, not 6 million. No one in history has intentionally murdered so many people -- not Stalin, not Mao, not anyone.
I support the substance of the reform while being completely alienated by this boorish messaging. Classic Liam Hehir opinion.

I’m proud to call @AlinejadMasih a friend and colleague—and now also a guest on my Autocracy in America podcast! If anyone was born to be a dissident, it’s Masih, a true fighter for human rights in Iran and now America. She has much to say, please listen and act. Link 👇
amidst this overwhelming waterfall of Nick Kurtz fun facts I'm somehow especially stunned by this very simple one: scoring 6 runs in a game is apparently even more rare than hitting 4 homers in a game via @Stathead, this is only the 9th time in MLB history it's happened
Check/update your enrolment details now. Late enrolment and special voting in local elections is going to be much more annoying for most people than special voting is at Parliamentary elections (because there are many fewer places you can do it)
More WCC nominations than previous years – deadline next Friday wellington.scoop.co.nz/?p=172541
With Terry Bollea's (Hulk Hogan's) death yesterday, it's a good time to look back at the biggest thing I was ever involved in. For over 3 years, I spent more than half of my worktime on one case-- Bollea v. Gawker. It was Charles Harder's case-- I handled "the appeal side".
+1 Run for mayor *or* council.
Current state of the Mayoral race with at least 5 nominations to come. 7 of the 12 candidates will also be contesting ward contests which shows they're not serious about the Mayoralty IMO. If you want to run for Mayor, run for Mayor.
🧵 The data you have all been waiting for! The NYC mayoral primary WITHOUT batch elimination (and some early analysis) 1) Zohran's first round (469,642) would have been enough to win against Cuomo's final round (443,229)
When people can sell plasma, they commit fewer property crimes and become less reliant on high-interest loans.
Almost nothing is this urgent. Introduce a bill. Once you have done so, send those operators a letter telling them that if they set up in the two months it will take the bill to pass, you're going to seize their stuff.
Why urgency late on a Tuesday? Unclear. Why the legislation? To deter "certain operators" from operating in NZ. Why regulate? The only overt sign of the risk the Govt is moving against was given in an 2024 SIS report.

The deer family were on the grass this morning, I dropped something in the kitchen they ran off down the back to “safety” I would have preferred the hebe to have been “ pruned” after it had flowered, ah, well as long as she enjoyed it 😊 #roedeer @BritishDeerSoc
I did a complete watch through of The Cosby Show a little over a decade ago (Hannibal Buress went big during it) and the show is fantastic. Way better than I remembered from childhood.
The saddest part about Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s passing is that there’s a whole generation that will never see his early acting brilliance on the Cosby Show because of what that terrible man did. They won’t be able to watch reruns or watch it on streaming to truly appreciate him 🥺
Anne Salmond: ministers have accused me of hyperbole, this is just like George Orwell’s 1984 and Gilead!
Wellington's new district plan is very good overall. But it did lock up more land under SNA designations. One affected owner dropped me a note about it... offsettingbehaviour.blogspot.com/2025/07/compen…

The solution is very straightforward: hold firms who create AI agents accountable for their responses If firms are concerned about liability, let them buy insurance to cover it If insurers are concerned about these risks, let them price it accordingly wsj.com/tech/ai/chatgp…
The Syrian jihadis seem to have only killed about 500 Druze, compared to 50,000 people killed in Gaza. I think the Druze events have gotten 1% of the coverage of Gaza, which is proportional to the number of deaths. In any case, the US pushed for a cease-fire in Druze regions of…
