Governor Bob Ferguson
@GovBobFerguson
Governor of the State of Washington
Our Super Scooper aerial firefighting teams have dropped over 300,000 gallons of water on the Burdoin Fire in Washington, supporting ground firefighters and protecting the surrounding communities.
Our hearts go out to the Washingtonians who have been impacted by the Burdoin Fire. The officials I was briefed by at the Incident Command Post in White Salmon yesterday have these people top of mind as they work to fight this fire and get folks back to their property safely.
“You never think that you’ll be there, and you don’t know what it’s like until you are here. We are taking it okay but we’re all kind of numb.” Shelley Swansen and her sister had to evacuate from the Burdoin Fire and have been staying at our shelter at The Dalles Middle School…
On behalf of the state of Washington, thank you to the firefighters, volunteers, and everyone coming together from across the state and the country to fight the Burdoin Fire. In White Salmon today, I saw an impressive level of coordination and professionalism.

Great day in Vancouver speaking with union workers and leaders. We celebrated big accomplishments this year, including strengthening laws protecting youth in the workforce and creating a more level playing field for bargaining workers. We also talked about the future: fighting…

I was proud to attend the opening for the Quinault Indian Nation’s new Queets Generations building. The Quinault have experienced increased flooding and sea level rise and have been working for decades to relocate their community to higher ground. The project is an example of…

So much work has gone into the Elwha River to bring back salmon and restore this amazing habitat. Port Angeles has already lifted its "Do Not Drink" order for its water supply. We were able to quickly contain the fuel spill and prevent further damage because of the immediate…

UPDATE 7:10 am: US 101 is still closed just west of Port Angeles as crews continue cleanup efforts. The tanker truck has been removed from Indian Creek but we’re still waiting on a tow truck to clear the scene.
This is a devastating accident for Indian Creek and the Elwha River. This spill is nothing short of heartbreaking for local tribes and other Washingtonians who rely on clean, healthy rivers and streams for their food and livelihoods. I am closely monitoring the situation with…

Here’s what we’ve accomplished for our ferry system in 6 months: ✅ We’re returning to full, domestic service 3 years ahead of schedule. ✅ We accepted a bid to build 3 new hybrid-electric vessels. ✅ We secured $39 million in a tough budget year for crew hiring, retention, and…

We’re working to cut permit processing times, make it easier to build housing, and fight back against tariffs. Small business owners, including those I spoke with in the San Juans, need results delivered.

Everyone deserves affordable health care. Washington will stand with our partners across the country against the Trump administration’s efforts to strip away people’s health care. Reversing this unlawful rule will help thousands of Washingtonians hold on to their health…
Congress passed the Affordable Care Act in 2010 to increase the number of Americans with health insurance and decrease the cost of health care. And it’s worked – the uninsured rate in Washington dropped by about 10 percentage points from 2011 to 2023. But now, the Trump…
If you live in Seattle, imagine getting to the I-90 bridge and it’s randomly closed. You can’t really live your life that way. The ferry system is that central for folks in island communities. We need to provide that timely infrastructure for all Washingtonians.
The LGBTQI+ Youth Subnetwork of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline will shut down tomorrow, July 17, following a federal decision announced last month to end this specialized service. Since launching in 2022, the subnetwork has provided tailored support to lesbian, gay, bisexual,…
I’ve heard from Washingtonians all around the state – Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, Spokane – who will be hurt by Donald Trump’s Medicaid cuts. It’s not a mystery why. Half of children in 26 of 39 counties in Washington are covered by Medicaid.

250,000 Washingtonians will lose Medicaid due to MAGA Congress’s Big Betrayal of a bill. It’s possibly the worst legislation I’ve seen in 20 years of politics.
