I saw a few people saying that realistic art was boring and why bother when you could just snap a photo. But I think it's beautiful and evocative. This takes skill and it's great some people are keeping that alive. I certainly don't have that skill; I admire other people's.
Leng Jun's 2004 oil painting is considered by many experts to be 'the painting that surpassed the Mona Lisa' and one of the most hyperrealistic works ever created!
Croagh Padriag is one of Ireland's most holy mountains and a site of pilgrimage. St. Patrick is said to have walked up the mountainside barefoot and fasted for forty days, a feat repeated by many on Reek Sunday, the last Sunday of July before Lúnasa. #FolkyFriday

Lunasa and Samhain are the historic Gaelic harvest festivals. The first, named for Lugh (spelled Lughnasadh in Old Irish) is a celebration of the early harvests and of the community, while Samhain celebrates the last harvest and is a festival of remembrance. #FolkyFriday

Lunasa, the Gaelic harvest festival, is celebrated because Lugh's adopted mother, Queen Tailtiu of the Firbolg, wandered Ireland preparing the land to be revitalized once the Fomorian threat was extinguished. She is why Ireland is called the Emerald Isle. #FolkyFriday 🖼️ R Gould

'Ghilli Dhu' is a male faerie living in Scottish forests where birch trees grow in abundance, camouflaging himself in leaves and moss, and only coming out at night. He comes to the aid of lost children, but is wrathful with other trespassers. #faeriefriday #folklore #Scotland

Alfred Noyes' "The Highwayman" tells of a rural rogue and his love for Bess, the landlord's black-eyed daughter, and how jealousy led a redcoat troop to their door, becoming one of the 19th and 20th centuries' favorite poems. #FairytaleTuesday
At the Italian site of San Giuliano, a team has unearthed a rare intact and sealed Etruscan tomb, which dates to around 400 B.C, in a chamber shaped like a house holding four individuals lying on carved stone beds and surrounded by over 110 artifacts. archaeology.org/news/2025/07/1…
Careful in the quiet of night, for it might be there you encounter Kitsune no Yomeiri, the Fox's Wedding. Kitsune on procession, they appear often as a Japanese wedding, except everyone is foxes and surrounded by fox fire! #LegendaryWednesday

Richard Matheson's new age-y novel is more grounded in Dante's Comedy in the film adaptation of What Dreams May Come, where love transcends death and Heaven is an act of creation; Hell is a prison of our own making. Robin Williams leads the amazing cast of my fave. #WyrdWednesday

Tondo from the Coupe à l'oiseleur ("Birdcatcher Cup"), an Ionian black-figure kylix, ca. 550 BC, depicting birds, a grasshopper, a snake, and a central figure among lush vegetation. Currently housed in the Louvre Museum.
This is one of three Dr. Strange graphic novels from the 80s that are among the best things Marvel has ever done. Highly suggest this one in particular.

No one knows the true purpose of the Shell Grotto at Margate in Kent, and it could have been built any time in the last three thousand years, with a massive dome and arched doorways. Connected to freemasonry, pagans, and others, the site remains a mystery. #MythologyMonday
A true ne’er-do-well in folklore doesn’t simply break rules. They rewrite them with laughter, bad wine, and a grin that makes crowds blush and kings grind their teeth, because somehow, they always seem to win without ever trying. #FairyTaleTuesday

Among the Tuatha de Danann never was there a greater rogue than the trickster Lugh Lamfada, known for his many skills, mastery of oaths, and his use of the letter of the law as a weapon against his enemies. #FairytaleTuesday 🖼️: M. Maiden

Japan has many magic animals but cities are the domain of the bakeneko, trickster cats who shapeshift and often appear human. They fill the urban role of rural foxes, as helpful as they are harmful: they can even grow two tails, indicating their power! #FairytaleTuesday
