The Gulf of Guinea faces serious threats from piracy, trafficking & maritime crime. With EU support, @UNODC trained 36 officers from Benin, Cameroon & Nigeria to secure their waters & protect their communities. A safer Gulf is a step towards a more secure & prosperous Africa.

I briefed the @UN Security Council on Haiti’s dire security crisis, as gangs expand & adapt.   I called for urgent scaling up of rule of law support, stronger criminal justice responses & enhanced border security, by working closely with partners & through regional cooperation.

I was honoured to address the #OPECFundDevForum, an annual platform to discuss financing for sustainable development. As our world undergoes rapid change, we must step up investment in the SDGs. Our efforts need to be guided by inclusion, equality, innovation & the rule of law.

Had a good meeting with @StateDept Senior Bureau Official @State_IO McCoy Pitt, to discuss @UNODC’s work, our impact, and the importance of addressing transnational organized crime, tackling drug trafficking and promoting security.

It was a real pleasure to meet Austrian Chancellor @_CStocker. As our host country, Austria has been a reliable & valued partner of the @UN for decades, and Vienna offers a unique space for diplomacy and dialogue. Grateful for the warm hospitality and our ongoing collaboration.

I was honoured to speak at the #UNGA on 10 years of the Nelson Mandela Rules on prison management. The Rules remind us that even behind bars, hope must not be caged & dignity must not be denied. Let’s carry forward Mandela’s legacy by turning second chances into new beginnings.

Deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, India. My heart goes out to the families and communities grieving the loss of loved ones. We stand in solidarity with all those affected by this terrible accident.
