Martin McGuinness was a freedom fighter, a political prisoner, he was a negotiator, a peacemaker, a healer. He had a passion for politics but was also very spiritual, and interested in nature. He was hugely interested in people.
Mitchel McLaughlin & Martina Anderson spoke eloquently tonight of the love between Martin and Bernie. Of their dedication to each other and of Martin’s love for his family. The book and in particular Bernie’s foreword reflect Martin’s character.
When Martin was standing down as MP for Mid Ulster Francie Molloy was selected to replace him. Tonight the Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation asked me to present ‘Our Martin’ to Francie. Francie was a founding activist in the civil rights movement & an activist for 60 yrs.
This evening we are in the Guild Hall in Derry to launch ‘Our Martin’ by author Jim McVeigh. It’s a very personal account of the life of our friend Martin McGuinness. Well done to Jim and Martin’s family for this unique insight into our Chieftain.

The Israeli army killed today the Palestinian journalist Walaa Jaabary with her husband and all their 4 children. Walaa was pregnant with another child when she was killed. That brings the number of Palestinian journalist killed in Gaza to 231.

The family of the late Martin Mc Guinness are looking forward to seeing everyone at the book launch of “Our Martin”. The book details stories of Martin’s life from his family and friends and also includes previously unseen photos of Martin. Guildhall 7pm Wednesday 23rd July.
